Misfire - Oil on spark plug

Hi Guys,

Friday i topped up my oil as it was a little on the low side, drove a good 150 miles without issue. I took the car out Sunday and noticed lack of power when accelerating.

I took the injectors out and 3 of 4 were all fine, the second one had a small amount of oil around and on top of the spark plug. The plug is seated correctly and tight. I tried my best to soak up any oil and popped it back together which seemed to temporarily do the trick but i didn’t manage to get it all out which brought the misfire back not long after.

I’ve not had chance to see if any additional oil has got back in since then or it’s just the remaining i didn’t manage to remove.

What could be the issue here? I can see a few threads regarding the rocker cover gasket but that all seems to be on Mk1s.

I'm unclear if we're talking about injectors or spark plugs here? If oil is on the top of the spark plugs then the rocker gasket will be leaking.

Recently did new coils and plugs on my mk2 2007 cupra and it to had a tiny bit of oil on the end of cylinder 2 coil. I reckon its the rocker gasket but haven't had a chance to pull it back out and see at what rate its leaking

When i take the ingnition coil out there’s oil around the bottom of the coil and some sat on top of the spark plug.

Since making the journey back home and getting the misfire again i’ve not had chance to take the coil back out and see if it’s filled up any more from when i initially tried to clean it out.

From what i’ve read about the Mk1s it’s normally the gasket and it seems to be an easy enough job to change but not sure about the Mk2’s / 1P engine. I’ll do some more researching!

No worries buddy, i do the same kind of thing all the time, lol.

If the plug is seated properly then pretty much all it can be is the rocker gasket really. If the oil is wicking up into the coil then i expect the spark is probably finding it's way to earth through the oil as it's easier than jumping the gap on the plug.

ordered a new one from Seat, waiting for the call to pick it up and then attempt to replace it!
