Following on from my post last night, I thought I'd share some initial impressions...... (Sorry if it's a long post, i'll try to keep it to the point)
Picked the car up from the dealer yesterday afternoon and had a circa 60 mile journey back home, which was pretty grotty. Busy motorways and rubbish weather over the snake pass.
To set some context, its the 1.5 V2 DSG and I've jumped out of a Peugeot 3008. Ordered the car having never seen or test driven it, as we were in lockdown , so these really are some early initial impressions.
Good bits
- Love the size of the car, quite deceptive. From the outside it looks considerably smaller than the interior feels. Looking at the dimensions, its pretty much the same as the 3008, just with a lower roofline. I think there maybe a bit more legroom in the back, the compromise being a smaller boot. Its more like a high riding estate (i'm thinking A4 Allroad, V60 Cross country) as opposed to an SUV, which I really like. I was worried it might be a squish as a 6ft 3, rugby player build guy, but no issues at all.
- As a result of the above, I really like the driving position. You feel like you sit in it, rather than on it.
- Ride is much firmer than the 3008, but I guess it's a different style of car so to be expected, but as a result, to me i really like the handling. Sharp, direct, good feedback and way less body roll than the 3008. The Pug was set up more for comfort, that's for sure,
- The 1.5 engine is perfectly well suited and most people don't need any more power. I did debate ordering the VZ2, but I also have a a Lexus ISF coming in a couple of weeks, which is on ld school 5.0l n/a V8, which can scratch the power itch. Whilst more power is always welcome, I'm not feeling disappointed that I didn't order the VZ2, so no regrets. The new 190 4wd could well be the sweet spot of power/price
- Love the silver / blue colour combo. Having ordered blind, I wasn't 100% convinced, but really glad I did now.
- No infotainment issues (yet). CarPlay worked straight away and set up Cupra connect with no issues.
- Whilst there is a lot to learn, I've found the infotainment pretty easy to get to grips with. I can see why some of the reviewers have criticised it's complexity and maybe this mean my perception was it was going to be terrible, but it's not too bad I don't think. Like anything, you get to grips with it soon enough.
No so good bits
- Rather frustratingly, I noticed when I got home that the "oil change service due" indicator came up. Dealer said this wouldn't have come up in the PDI, so needs to go in to be reset. Annoying, but not the end of the world. Will get it booked in with my local dealer, as luckily I have 2 Cupra dealers nearby.
- Road noise seems quite loud compared to the 3008. I assume it's due to it's more "sporty" focus and bigger wheels.
- Keyless entry. I'm probably doing it wrong, but locking by touching the outer bit of the handle doesn't seem that responsive. Also, when I tried to unlock yesterday evening from, the passenger side, the door unlocked but the rear wouldn't. This could well user error.....
- Could not get to grips with the Cruise Control on the motorway, I couldn't even set it at first, but again, not necessarily a "bad bit", more user error. A quick look at the handbook helped, but not had chance to try it yet.
- Seat base side bolters.....Whilst the seats are comfortable, I'm not sure how well the base side bolters will hold up, as I find myself catching them on entry and exit. Maybe just my big arse

Questions I have....
- Is there a feature so wing mirrors auto dip when reversing? I liked that in my 3008. Yes there is the reverse camera, but I still like to use my mirrors and only really use the camera for seeing how close I am to a wall/car
- What is the little key symbol printed into the plastic in the cup holder?
- Car seems to have an auto parking feature....never new this was included. Will never use it, but will no doubt try it for pure novelty factor.
- In the section where you can choose driver settings "comfort", "Sport" and "individual" there is an option to choose settings for ACC. I thought the V2 didn't have adaptive suspension, or is in referring to Adaptive Cruise Control? and if so, what does it do? I think the options are sport and comfort, but can't remember now.
I'll stop waffling on now, but all in all, my first afternoon of ownership and impression of the car is great. Only real nag is the inconvenience of having to get the oil service indicator reset.
