What is it?

This is the next generation MK4 CUPRA Leon, taking the reins from the MK3 SEAT Leon CUPRA that is our community’s most popular model.

This is the first ever CUPRA hybrid car, the DSG eHybrid with a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine, combined with an 85KW electric motor.

With a combined power output of 245 BHP, it’s down on power over the previous generation that topped out at 300 BHP (we’re not comparing with the 310 CUPRA R’s ST here).

This CUPRA Leon hybrid has a speed of 0-62 in 6.7 seconds (7 seconds for the ST) and a top speed of 140 MPH. The previous generation DSG Leon CUPRA had a 0-62 time of 5.7 seconds.

Thankfully, we will have engine power matched with the forthcoming 300HP (hatchback) and 310HP (4-drive ST) models on the way by April...

good points - Decent paddle shifters, decent seats, Cupra button

bad - the wheels are horrendous, its sitting on stilts, the plastics are worse than ever, needs larger spoiler

I'm sure it will all be sorted for the petrol models but as a teaser into the full Cupra model, it is pretty bad. I have moved onto an Ateca now but I had the new Cupra 290 for almost 2 years and it was a great car with decent quality but the new model (aswell as Golf and A3) have definitely went backwards when it comes to interior quality.

Sadly the real car, this wasn't a one off in the car we had. The press shots and brochure (which I've just uploaded) indicate the same. I think the team designing the configurator got a bit carried away.

Just as well no-one buys 'off-plan'. You'd be mightily disappointed when you saw the real thing. They maybe should have added the remark "Artist's impression - may not reflect the actual product delivered":cautious:

Uploaded the brochure.

A couple of key points I've spotted:

1. CUPRA driving mode button and start button not on the steering wheel - this means faffing with the touch screen to change mode - I'm hoping we'll see these in the Petrol versions but I've asked why not (these were on the review car)
2. DSG Petrol ST 310 - no flappy paddles - hatch only

There seems to be a lot of different options that aren't in the configurator. These wheels are shown on the product page but aren't available to choose. If you look at the Spanish configurator they are available as a €980 option and the steering wheel with the start and mode buttons is a €710 option. I'm hoping these will be available for the petrol version in the UK. I really don't understand why they wouldn't put the flappy paddles in the ST 310. It just seems like an arbitrary decision.

I'm hoping those wheels will be standard on the petrol models - the bronze versions were on the original press photos, charging extra for the start mode buttons next?! they were supposed to be standard :(

Hopefully the buttons will be standard on UK spec petrol models.

As per @Seriously? there has been a serious lack of attention to detail here in my opinion.

Why go all out on the copper accents (highlighting the faux exhaust trim!), then have black/silver wheels, aluminium pedals, aluminium door sill trims? But the worst... copper trim around vents on dash, but chrome around the DSG centre console.

I stumbled across this article looking at colours for the Cupra Leon, as the one I have on order is black, but starting to wonder if I should see if I can change my order to Graphene Grey... This will be my 1st Cupra, but my 7th Leon. So far I had 1x Mk2 5 door, 1x Mk3 5 door, 1x Style Sportstourter, 1x Mk3 Xperience, 1x Mk3 Fr Sportstourer and 1 Mk4 Fr Sportstourer. All of them have had some nice features.

When I first saw the Mk4 Leon in general, I was also a little disappointed and preferred the Mk3 design. But after 1 1/2 years with a Mk4, by now I far prefer the Mk4 design and find the Mk3 a little old-fashioned. By now I find the Mk4 more purposeful. If it's any indication how the look is perceived by other people, a few weeks back someone wrote "angry" in the snow on the bonnet of the car, which amused me :).

To some extent, I can understand why people may aesthetically prefer a lower look for the car. However, where I live (Sweden / Stockholm area), I am already a bit nervous with how low the Cupra version is compared to the FR, because in spring on the out of town roads (further Northwards) the bottom of my FR already scrapes along the surface of the road before the roads dry out towards summer. With my Mk2, I even got stuck just because of the amount of snow under the car even in the Stockholm suburbs before the snow ploughs had been out...

Nonetheless; I am still looking forwards to upgrade to a Cupra, even if I was "forced" into getting one after my Seat FR hybrid got cancelled thanks to the semi-conductor crisis, as it would never be built. (Disclaimer; I work for VW group and can only have a Audi, VW, Seat/Cupra or Skoda through work. I much prefer the Seat & Cupra over the rest)
