The adhesive's degraded over the years and now it isn't sticking. I'm hoping I can unclip it from the door card and peel it off and put new adhesive under, but I fear that way there will be ball ache.

Oh not good, lucky not got that issue, bet it is a pain as the cover would of been stretched over and pressed in by a machine I reckon , if you do the glue might come though unless you use an adhesive tape like the 3m anti vibration gear.

It's the only door that it's happened to. No reason for it really, but you're right it'll probably be impossible to do by hand. Because of the shape of it, any adhesive I use would either have to be tacky enough to grab the fabric and stay there, or I'd have to find some way of applying pressure to it until it dried.
I think this can probably go on the list of things that are annoying but can't be fixed without buying a new door card.

All done and back in the car. I'm going to be worrying about chipping the paint for a while, but it's not hard to take out again and respray if I need to - not to mention that I can change colour too. Surrounded by so much black on the interior, I think black was the right choice though.
I was really impressed with the paint finish - you can't tell it's painted. It's the Halfords matt black spray paint, with a couple of coats of Upol primer underneath. Built it up slowly - I think there are about five or six coats on there, so hopefully it's tough enough. It's not a part of the car that'd going to get knocked too often though, so it should be fine.
Took the chance to have a clean up behind there too. It was proper dusty and the thermostat (I think?) for the air conditioning was caked in dust. Sprayed electrical contact cleaner behind the switches to clean the remnants of a coca cola incident too and they're butter smooth now.

It's actually really easy. I think someone has posted a video on the first page of the thread, but it's just a matter of taking out the stereo and unplugging everything from the back, before unscrewing a Phillips head screw in the top of the ashtray compartment, which allows you to slide the ashtray out. Once you unplug the cigarette lighter at the back and pull out the ashtray you'll see there are two T20 Torx screws behind where the ashtray was, and a T20 Torx either side of where the stereo was.
After you've done that, the whole fascia will pull out - really easily. It gives you access to the rest of the screws for the centre console, and from here you can also do things like remove the cup holder. One of these days I'm going to get around to replacing the foam on the cup holder. I never use the bloody thing, but it just bothers me.
I get the feeling that every previous owner of the Leons on this site were filthy beggars. The number of times I either hear about or come across things like sticky buttons... Someone mentioned on the thread that electrical contact cleaner works well for cleaning the buttons. I gave it a go with the Halfords stuff, and used a fine bristled toothbrush too, and there's no stickiness anymore.
Haha 100% I had the indicator stalks covered in human slime when I bought it. I'll give the electrical cleaner a go. Cheers

Stopped short of a complete rip out and weld in cage as might be upgrading next year

A touch of Cupra inside the gauge.... maybe it will boost more RPM's.
On the mk1 it’s a VW Audi Group fitting. ( of course )!
Means that 95% of the after market stuff doesn’t fit.
As they all follow a similar path to make it easy.
But not VW, useless.
I found a sweet MOMO version that wouldn’t fit.
So can be limiting.
Audi stuff and VW obviously works and a select few make aftermarket for said company vehicles.

I'm desperate to repair my driver's seat bolster. It's had the metal support pushing through as long as I've had the car, and it's one of those things I've wanted to sort for years.
All the guides I've come across are years old and the links to the foam padding are long dead. Are there any ways of fixing this these days?

Bolster foams are still available from the dealer and a few select independent VAG specialists as far as im aware.
I know the Recaro ones are for sure as I recently priced them up.
Another option is buy a decent condition used passenger seat with less wear and transfer the bolster foams across.
