Just thought I'd post a little update, not a great deal has happened in all honesty but didn't want to let it slip too far behind as it makes it harder to keep track of stuff further down the line as my brain is like a sieve.

As per ever I'm always parts collecting even if nothing is getting fitted as I know it will eventually....hopefully ha

So my current parts fetish has been gathering the bits to install Audi S3 8L coolant and battery covers.
After dealing with an assortment of sellers I have amassed the following bits and the only piece I need now is the battery box mount which I sourced a few hours ago

As you may have noticed I have new genuine Porsche oil and coolant caps.
I've also acquired a brand new old stock 5.5L washer bottle from a VW mk4 Golf that would have had been equipped with headlight washers.
I thought I'd take a punt on this one as the Audi S3 5.3L bottle was going to cost almost £50 from TPS where as this one cost me a measly tenner!
From what I can tell the only real difference is the marginal difference in capacity and the second washer pump hole which I plan to bung up as it wont be required.
The larger capacity bottles are needed when installing the cover as the original 3L bottle basically disappears, the filler neck is also offset.

Something else I had a tinker with yesterday was the old N249 valve & vacuum reservoir mounting bracket.
With my new set up all this old crap was ditched but this now meant I lost my engine cover lug and no one likes a flappy cover...

Out with the disc cutter and satin black paint again.

This should do the trick and gets rid of all the unwanted junk, I just need to trim the TFSI coil pack spacers to get to the rocker cover fixing holes.

So almost 3 months have passed since any real work has been done on the car!
There's been the odd little tinker with bits and pieces at the workshop but nothing substantial to speak of.

Unfortunately due to the barn not been available during December the car sat outside on a very wet and muddy farm for around 6 weeks in total.
I eventually got it pushed back inside mid January but simply not had the time to commence work until this past Sunday.

Well, I can't honestly believe the toll this stopgap has taken on all the hard work I'd already put into tidying the engine bay up.

Although the car had a cover over it the engine bay was still very exposed underneath it allowing huge amounts of moisture to penetrate all the fresh paintwork I'd done on the gearbox, inlet manifold and rocker cover etc.
I'm guessing the fact that none of the hi-temp paint has had any heat cycling yet it left it all very porous which has now left white chalky marks over everything.
The gearbox in particular looks pretty crap and rough which I'm absolutely gutted about and I have no intention of pulling it back out at this stage.

I haven't taken any pictures of the issues as yet as I was so pissed off but the past few days I been re-cleaning a lot whilst wiring and plumbing it back in.

The rocker cover can stay put although far from perfect but the inlet manifold is coming back off and I've organised a part polished alternative to be done imminently as I simply hate the current one now.
I reckon a polished one will look more uniform with the new polished charge pipe anyway.

This is where I'm up to this evening, not so bad from a distance and luckily I plan to run all the engine covers and trims to hide away as many sins as possible.

That photo was sent from the guy who did the polishing work for me.
I probably could've done it myself but simply don't have the time or materials so just easier to sub the work out in this instance.
He messaged me last night as it happens and will be posting it tomorrow and arrive on Tuesday which I'm looking forward to receiving as I can finally start buttoning up the engine bay.

Haha I know what you're saying, I hadn't planned on going the polished route but it will only be the inlet manifold and charge pipe like this as I really can't be arsed with the upkeep of a fully blinged engine bay.

Monthly update

Oddly I've been pretty active on it this past week of so.
Sod all work means more time to play with car stuff which is handy considering the amount that needs doing!

Ok so for starters I had a nightmare getting the engine and downpipe lined up properly.
No matter how much I shifted the mounts around I couldn't get enough clearance between the downpipe and steering and floor pan.
Everything simply clashed which was a huge ballache especially considering I'd taken the engine, mounts and downpipe all from a perfectly functional donor vehicle.
It didn't make sense and the only way of resolving it I could see was to fabricate some spacers for the dogbone mount to tilt engine angle slightly.

Next up was attempting to install the Creations motorsport charge pipe, yep you guessed it that was a pig of a job as well and also required a spacer and some hacking.

I think this was a combination of things, CM parts not been a particularly great fit and the Relentless Pro4 manifold throwing things out.

Compatibility of the Badger 5 TIP, R-Tech heatshield and Pro-Ram cone filter I wanted to install.

TIP to short
MAF fixing holes centres in heatshield to narrow.
Cone filter impossible to slide onto MAF

Onto better stuff

AKS tuning aluminium injector cups were fitted into my shiny new inlet manifold after breaking one of the new plastic cups I fitted and thought sod it I want better.

At this point I was itching to start throwing bigger bits at it so go the slam panel and rad pack built up and plumbed in.

I also offered the Audi S3 coolant and battery cover up for a mock up fit which do look good in my opinion but will need to some fettling and shaving to fit properly.

Airtec FMIC bolted up, pipework attached and trimmed accordingly.

Horns were relocated from the front crash bar to nearside arch area.

The modified N249 vac reservoir bracket was bolted on so I could still have the engine cover fitted.
As I'm running TFSI coil packs it meant that its sitting about 3mm higher than usual but should be ok.

Looks similar to the issues I had with my tip install - https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?threads/badger-5-tip-fitting-questions.458492/#post-4912893

I found that when I disconnected the turbo pipe to DV pipe suddenly the TIP fitted nicely for the heat shield and filter. And that made it awkward to connect the DV back up. The CM turbo to DV hose is definitely shorter than the OEM one. unnecessary headaches!! I feel your pain.

I fancied a change of view today so opted to stick my head under the arches instead of under the bonnet.

Time to get the brakes swapped over for some prettier and more efficient ones.

I bought a full LCR brake set up a while ago that had been stripped and rebuilt not too long ago.
Plus they had been powder coated black which is what I'd already planned to do anyway so made sense to grab these and sell my old red units.

I did a bit more cleaning as they were still rather grubby and then coupled them up with some Ferodo DS3000 pads, EBC drilled and grooved discs and Goodridge braided hoses.
