I've had wheel hop in my 1.8 TSI, usually on a slightly sandy country road pullin away from standing start. Or if i have turned the DSC to sport mode.
The MY19 cupra i test drove didn't have this problem though and that was on continentals. had only done 15 miles mind.

If you're heavy footed or you have cold/wet tyres it's definitely possible to get wheel hop in the Cupra MY19. I had it happen once in the wet when I gave it a few too many beans coming out of a corner, I thought the wheels were going to come through my car. It's quite violent!

It is certainly a horrible noise, first time it happened i thought my car was falling to bits. :drive2:

It's too easy to do in a MY19 DSG Cupra, I done it earlier on a dry road without trying to provoke it too much. It hopped that bad it put the wipers on! I should know better!

Stock Conti's are down to 4mm so not long until a set of PS4s go on.

I've not fitted the Michelin PS4S tyres so can t directly compare but Evo did a test last year of all performance tyres and the Continentals performed the best in the dry. So not sure the Michelins will help much if you're already slipping in the dry. The Contis perform like crap in the wet and don't last long so I understand why people change them for that reason.

take it that's conti 6's though?

Been looking about a bit at lower mount inserts and tbh it's confused me even more as some seem to do just the lower mount in poly or ally, but then I saw a fella on youtube who got the APR insert for a mk7 golf R and hes said that the ally inserts are known to crack, and the poly ones squish a bit after time n become less effective!?

Also seen something about 034 motorsport ones n they seem to say you need to do upper and lower!??

So confused now!!

Don't get me wrong, the Cupra will still hop with PS4S as I've experienced on my previous 280 although that car was a manual so it was easier to modulate power to compensate.

The mount does help vastly but there can be side effects such as vibration and other issues mentioned above.

I drove a friend's Cupra with a mount and and found it a bit harsh.

Maybe different brands will have different results but I've never wanted to go down that route as I learned to adapted to setting off quickly but I find that wheel hop is inevitable with a 290hp FWD car.

I’ve had the 034 motorsport aluminium mount fitted to my CUPRA 300 and later added Michelin PS4S tyres.

Both were fitted by my local Seat Dealer. Mount cost me £50 and £20 to fit (new stretch bolt included) and all for tyres cost me £25 for the lot.

Piece of mind is that I know they fitted the bolt to the correct torque and my wheels were treated correctly so no nasty scrapes or marks on them.

There was slight vibration with the mount when initially fitted but I don’t notice any now.

Main thing is I’ve had no issues with wheel hop and I’m happy

Tyres have different levels of grip in different directions of loading. A tyre that generates high side forces may not have the best traction off the line. For an extreme example, look at drag slicks. You couldn't get around a corner at all on those, but they have enough grip to wrinkle the sidewalls. I've never seen a tyre test where they test traction from a standing start.

Hence a track using the same car, similar performance and FWD using tyres built for the same purpose in the same size gives a fairly decent idea of how it will perform when giving it the beans in the twistys. I'm sure you can find tests on drag performance from 0 if that's your thing.

Well my car has been on the track a few times with the PS4S and very happy with them.

I currently use them for road use and put on Pilot Sport Cup 2 for Track use as these are a better for that purpose but not designed for the winter.

These cars are not 0 - 60 machines (not slow but cant beat 4 wd) but they are great in the 30 - 150 range (where the lower weight comes in to play) especially in the twisty's using the front diff.

Maypack, your post is bang on as usual. I've still to be convinced. My dealer 'master tech' said he would fit when in for a service! I'm sure these guys know the problem!

I discussed the fitting of the mount with the Dealer Principal and he had no concerns over me wanting it fitted. At least with them doing it if there is a problem they will correct it.

Get it done. It does make a big difference.
