Hey folks,

I collected my 2nd Cupra on Sunday. I absolutely love it, especially with this this new 7 speed DSG. My last Cupra SC 280 was a manual but in my humble opinion the DSG really makes the car so much better.

I previously owned an FR184 DSG and loved the gearbox/engine combination in that but this new 7 speed in the Cupra is amazing.

I have found that if you floor it in the Cupra there is a nasty delay as it hunts for the lower gear before the power comes in but using the paddles seems to sort it!

Even though the new car is a '290' it feels so much faster than my old 280. I have been taking it easy (ish) as it's new but I'm very impressed.

I used to hate the noise from the sound acktor thingy in the 280 but the new 290 it really sounds good (got a bit of 5 cylinder rumble) and you can actually hear intake and turbo whistle along with overrun crackle!

The digital dash tops it all off!

Cracking car

To be honest I didn't have a choice as this car was the only one Seat had for quick delivery but it's a such stunning colour in the flesh!

Pictures cannot do the colour justice! I'm sure I see a greenish tint in the correct light.

maybe a stage 1and dsg map would sort out the acceleration delay :)

It's dependant on build week whether it has a cooper S logo or chrome S's. A cupra badged one seems it'll come with the new mk4's.

Lovely car mate. Good choice.

I thought the SEAT badge had been dropped now as it's branded Cupra?

As above, the first cupra branded leon will be the new mk4.

Lovely looking motor peller. I was going to be on the hunt for at 17/18 cupra st 300 dsg in the new year but I'm seriously considering one of the newer 290s now I've seen a few very good reviews on here of the 7spd dsg.

The 7 speed DSG is excellent, seemless changes and is much quiter on the motorways. No doubt gaining a few mpg on longer runs for all that matters!

I think I just have to get used to the ratios, definitely better to use the paddles to select a lower gear before booting it!

As much as I'd like a map I think the only mods I'll consider is the dog bone mount and a set of PS4s once the stock Continental's have worn out, that shouldn't take too long ;)

Thanks Yasali,

I'll try and update as much as I can. My first impressions are very positive.

I'm taking it easy for a few hundred miles before but so far it is a big improvement over my old SC 280.

I'm on my second tank of Tesco Momentum so hopefully the engine management has adjusted to the higher octane. The fuel economy is as expected, I did get near 40mpg on a good run but with mixed driving I think the 30mpg mark is more realistic. It's still fantastic for the power, hell of a lot more cost effective than the A45 I was running!

I'm liking the interior, the faux Alcantara/Leather looks and feels good, let's see how well it lasts! It also feels like it's screwed together much better than my previous mk3's but as this is the run out model I expect all the previous issues have been addressed.

Roll on Cupra mk4!

Yeah thanks buddy it's first one of had so not much to compare to I recently stuck £40 and it just got me 170miles and that was my misses driving so not being driven hard. I thought that was pretty poor. I have noticed if you do a motorway run it's decent on fuel but around town I'm bot to sure about.
Yeah that would be great keep me updated on how you get on

Do they still use 5w30 vw504 long life spec engine oil on the Copra's with the GPF?

I have some left that wasn't used in the 1.4ACT and wanted to check if they're stills putting that inside it from factory.
