Hi all,

I'm seeking some urgent advice as earlier today the silver button on the end of the handbrake just fell out. I didn't even notice exactly when it happened but now I have a big issue with the handbrake as it doesn't exactly work well without the button.

Has anyone had this issue before? Can I buy a replacement button or do I need an entire handbrake? The old button seems to not engage with the flange on the mechanism inside the handle itself, could it be worn? Nothing looks to have snapped off any of the parts I can see. Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you

Have a look and see if you can see anything for the Mk7 Golf, quick Google shows that you'll probably need to dis-assemble the centre console to replace the switch.

I can't imagine you'd need to replace the entire handbrake...that switch is just operating a button.

edit: oh I thought you said somewhere you had the auto handbrake...silly me. Still, I think a similar thing still applies

Assuming this is the manual handbrake, Yeah mine does it all the time. Must get it sorted before the warranty runs out.

It just clips into the handbrake handle and sits on top of the rod and spring. Sometimes the tension from the spring forces it out and it pings around the cabin. I did try superglueing it once but that doesn't work as it needs to sit loose from the spring.

Thank you both for your replies. Yes, it was for a manual handbrake. As it turns out, like eltawater said, it was just a case of buying a new silver end button. It clicked straight in to place without needing any other work. The old button must have been worn as it wouldn't click in to place and engage with the internal mechanism.

Thanks again, happy it was such an easy fix!

Ah I potentially spoke too soon. It seems to be popping off regularly and SEAT servicing say a whole new handbrake is required. I'm seeking other quotes as SEAT is so expensive.

Hey,

I have the exact same issue now... could you let me know what your outcome was?

Did you need to change the entire handbrake?

Cheers
