Rear S Badge Replacement

Hi all, so had a major service done yesterday and they brought up a couple of things that need doing.

Rear boot S badge is sticking, which I did already know about. However Seat want £110 to replace it, so I thought there must be a better way. Had a quick look but can't seem to find any instructions on replacing it in a Mk3, haven't had a look on eBay yet for a replacement or if that's even required. I saw people on the Mk2 just taking it off and cleaning it, which seemed to fix it. Anyone have any instructions that I've missed for taking it off?

They also said the rear plastic trim has come off on the boot lid, so if that has to come off to take the badge off then I can make it a 2 in 1 fix. Hopefully then I don't have to pay £160 for the privilege.

Only other thing was the foamy wheel inflater has expired so I might just replace it with a spare wheel kit, 18" seems to be the one for the Cupra.

This happened on my 184TDi
Take the tailgate trim panel off and grease the mechanism for the lock / button
Never had any more issues with it.

mines started going a bit sticky but a holiday road trip where the boot saw regular use freed it up, and it's been fine since.

I use it quite a bit (well, used to, I put the uprated struts on) but it was sticking a little bit when I bought it, now it doesn't flick back like it's supposed to.

Never had any more issues with it.

Yeah, I think that's what I'll need to do, is it a simple case of taking that plastic trim off and I should be able to get at the mechanism?

Do you all mean the badge stays out after opening? Like it's got a camera in it? Mine has done so this summer. I'll have a look under the panel if so.

It doesn't flip back like it should, I have seen an error come up on OBD11 too when I was driving around after forgetting to flip the S back after opening the boot...whoops.

Looks like the part number is 5F0 827 565 C.

I did this over the weekend, really easy and works fine now.

The only horrible bit is yanking the boot trim off trying not to break it!

Yeah thankfully Seat had already done half the job for me after I took it in for servicing.

I've just used some Rustoleum X1 stuff in it though (it's a degreaser I got from work) and it's good as new.

Did you buy a brand new badge? Where did you get it from if you don't mind me asking, I was looking on eBay around the £30 mark but they were second hand, so knowing me I'd buy one and it'd already be sticking...

No I took the badge out. Easy enough once the boot trim is off.

Used a hammer and a screwdriver to bang the pin out and clean it up. Nothing more than surface rust, squirt of WD40 and put it all back together.

Did this today, easy to do. Handle is a switch rather than mechanical and the pivot or spring rusts up. I used the idea of drifting the axle out but a few taps each way did the trick. Expect it to happen again so will try in situ by wiggling side to side with trim tools or let warranty deal with it.

Apologies for digging an older thread out but...

This happened last week on our Leon ST booked in to Seat and was told its not warranty!! apparently its wear and tear so wont be covered, guess what ill be doing tonight, cheers for the guide
