Leon cupra 300 MPG and value

so I have a Leon mk 3 and have had it around 5 years, I am now looking at getting a new Cupra but just have a couple of questions.

Realistically what mpg do you get and how many miles out of a tank ?? ( with sensible driving ? )

Also I have heard rumours that the new mk4 Leon will be out soon now does this mean Tha the new Cupra 300’s will drops loads in value or do they hold their own ?

I don’t own a cupra but really want to own one.
The combined figures say around 41. But I always say the urban figures closer to the it of around 32. Being Asia’s a cupra the urge to floor it is more likely than in a slower car. Could be looking at about 26-28. I’ve read some people get 22 but they drive hard a lot.
I think I’d get around 28...I hope.

As for next question. The I think the value will hold unless the mk4 has a different look because they are dropping back to 290. I heard this and I asked seat and he said they think it will drop back down for emissions reason. 300 should hold well. I think all will better than expected because the drop and if it’s a lot different.
But I hope they go down as that’s what I’m waiting for.

I get about 30mpg in my Cupra 290. I drive fairly hard though. It will get around 40mpg while cruising at 100kmh.

8.3 - 8.7 on the last trip, lots of overtaking and a fair bit of "Christian" motoring in sport mode through all the twisty's, 85 km/h average.

That’s very impressive. My ex wife had a Scirocco GT (TSi 210) and that only averaged about 28.

In my Cupra 300 DSG, Sensible driving to work gets me a max of 41mpg. But it’s usually around 36-39mpg. A recent run from Cumbria to Edinburgh I didn’t exceed 80mph and managed 34mpg. I haven’t had more than 390 miles from a full tank yet.

On 2 long drives last month through France using motorways where I was doing 130-140kph (81-87) most of the time, I was getting 350 miles to about 48 litres on full up. So that’s real world (not fake computer) ~33.1mpg. But I find 80mph starts getting about 3000rpm and that’s when the fuel economy starts to drop (turbo kicking in?) I’m sure if I’d been doing 70mph I’d of got a lot more. But then I’d of taken a fair bit longer to get to where I was going and be overtaken by trucks LOL

Normally I get about 280-300 miles to a 48 litre fill up. That’s a mixture of motorway, standing traffic and commuting etc. Works out at real world ~27.5mpg.

If I’m doing a lot of long motorway drives in the UK on motorways it gets closer to 375 miles so 35.5mpg.

Most I’ve ever got is driving to and from Norwich cruising mainly A roads and got nearly 400 miles. Worked out real world 37.8mpg. Lots of stopping and starting but maximum speed is 60mph most of the way.

So if you can keep the car at 60 for your journey you should get 400 easy. But you’re in a Cupra so it’s hard not to plant the throttle on occasion

@paddy6789 says he comfortably gets 400 a tank in his 290, but his is tuned and has a larger intercooler (which from previous experienced helped a lot for cruising). Either that or his 5 door has 55 litre tank to my ST’s 50 tank. (Why oh why has the ST got a smaller tank than the old mark 2!)

On a ‘cautious’ tank, without a lot of enthusiastic driving, I can get anywhere between 450-480 per tank with an average of up to 44-46mpg. And that’s with Cupra mode turned on all the time.

On a ‘normal’ tank where there’s a fair bit of enthusiastic driving, I can get between 350-400 per tank with an average of between 35-40mpg.

On a ‘crazy’ tank, where it’s nothing but giddiness, I get no more than 300 per tank and average of 20-25mpg per tank.

Again, all with Cupra mode turned on.

I’m pretty sure I have a 50l tank, though the amount of times the pump says I’ve put 52l in is always confusing.

I know it’s not a 300 but my 280 I get between 350-400 miles per tank using Sainsbury’s super unleaded. Always in cupra mode and lots of country road driving hills the lot!

worst case scenario: driving in London, off peak hours, 20-30 zone, with speedhumps: 22-24 mpg on 5 mile trip to home -> gym.
best case: cruising on motorway 60-70 mpg can get around 42-44 mpg

There are a few renderings of the next generation Leon out in the public domain, but they’ll be purely speculative at this stage, and whether or not they’re a good representation of what the actual car will look like is anyone's guess. If the current Ibiza is anything to go by, the design of the next generation Leon / Cupra will be an evolution of the current model.

Sometimes a motoring magazine will get some spy shots of an undisguised model close to launch date when cars are in the final stages of testing, but any spy shots currently in circulation are likely to be next generation underpinnings in a current Leon / Cupra body.

As for launch date; if Seat’s approach to performance Leons is the same as VW’s for the Golf, the performance models usually appear later than the rest of the range; so maybe sometime during the first half of 2020 before we see the Leon Cupra. However, with Seat launching a separate Cupra brand, there may be a different timeline for the launch of the Leon Cupra.

I’ve had my Cupra 300 SC DSG for a couple of weeks now. I’ve covered just over 1100 miles (including a camping trip to Devon and a huge road trip round the South Wales valleys!). I’ve done all sorts of driving from motorway cruising to B road bashing, both with and without passengers, and with and without a full boot..

Mine is showing an average 34.1mpg which I’m more than happy with, and which I fully expect to increase once the child in me stops booting it at every opportunity

On another note, SEAT have now stopped doing the Cupra 300, and are due to replace it with a 290 for future models. I was informed that mine was one of the last Cupra 300 3 Doors, which is good to know

@Damo H Yours is not that bad, I personally don't look at fuel consumption just the fun I have with the car but thought I would check after your comment. My long term average at the moment is 27.3, Very happy with that

Don't get me wrong, I didn't buy the Cupra with fuel economy in mind

I'm just very impressed that I can drive it how I want to drive it and still get a decent return. Before I bought it I was expecting no more than very low 30s. I had a 2016 Polo GTI before this which averaged 39.1mpg... I wouldn't be surprised if I was averaging 35+ in my Cupra after a couple of months which will make very little difference in terms of cost, for an additional 110bhp!!

Unless you do really big mileages, does the fuel economy really bare much on your decision on whether to get one or not? Say you do an average mileage of 10k/year. The difference between a car that averages 30mpg and one that does 40mpg is going to be circa £500/year which isn't going to be enough to sway someone who is looking at a performance car in the first place.

For what its worth, my 290 manual 5dr has a computer claimed long term average of 36mpg. The highest I've seen driving at 50/60mph on undulating roads is 50.3mpg over a distance of 35miles.
