Serviced my car at SEAT main dealer with remap on experiment

Hi guys just to let you know that i took my SEAT Leon Cupra 290 in for a second service today with my APR stage 1 remap still on. The car was serviced, book stamped with nothing was said to me about the remap and no mention of a TD1 flag. The main reason why i chose to take this risk was my local independent dealers were quoting me prices more expensive or the same as the £219 i paid at my SEAT dealer. I also only have 1 more left of warranty and i have had the map on since august 2017 with no issues so again i was willing to take the risk. Furthermore i felt come resale i might be able to sell the car easier with a full main dealer service history.

This may be interesting for some of you who have a remaped car and are scared to take it in for a service at your main dealer due to the risk of them being able to flag your remap

I would like to also mention that the remap appears to have been removed from SEAT as they would have flashed the ECU while servicing it. I plan to keep it off until summer as the car cant use the power well in our current weather conditions

I guess issues would only arise if you attempted to raise an engine / drivetrain warranty claim with a mapped motor.

Agree with the above, with a regular service they'd have no reason to look for a remap, if it was in for engine related warrenty work it would have a different story

You say the dealer wiped the remap, does that mean you have to pay for it all over again to get it put back on?

Why would the dealer reflash it rather than just look for codes? Factory update of something?

They might have recorded that you have a remap but have chosen not to tell you....... That might change of course if you have a future warranty claim at which point they might reveal it.

Dealer can manually remove a TD1 flag by reflashing software. so if this car now has a TD1 flagged against it which it will have, and they come to resell it, they can check it over and manually remove the TD1.

This post is a bit BS tbh dealer wouldn't of mentioned TD1 as it was in for service but can guarantee its now been recorded, any warranty claims will get shot down now straight away.

basically they haven't flagged it with you as they have wiped it.

But only if they have run a diagnostic and they don't usually do that at a service unless fault finding or requested (at £75 a pop!!) as I found out when asking if any fault codes had been thrown up by the diagnostics at my last service.

if its been flashed back to stock it will have been plugged into ODIS/ELSA Pro/Saga 2 which is where the TD1 is stored as well.

Dealers are told to check for TD1 codes when booking a service in Elsa or Saga.

So the first time you get a remap they take the time to tune the map to your engine then I guess they save a copy of the map so it can be put back on without going through the work all over again?

No its a generic map. So each 290 will have the same software tweaks the same as each 290 has an identical stock ecu map.

I assumed going by the price and the popularity they were custom maps. That's good that they will put them back on if required though.

May be the case, but my one says he will flash any SEAT updates FOC.

Just double checked and remap in actually still ON. This essentially means they did NOT flash the ECU or do any diagnostics. They essentially just carried out a simple oil service and pollen filter change. This is still quite important to know as there is false information on this forum (AndrewJB being a contributor) that states the main dealers will be able to identify maps when you take the car in for simple servicing. This is in fact NOT true. I would have lost my main dealer service history had i listened to this false information

I'm sure there is some variation between dealers and they may or may not tell you about scans and flags. If I was revoed I'd have that Indy service the car probably with more care for less money than the stealer - they might even do the work. A history from a reputable specialist is worth more than a stamp in a book and some white grease near the bonnet latch to my mind.
