Serviced my car at SEAT main dealer with remap on experiment

This is still quite important to know as there is false information on this forum (AndrewJB being a contributor) that states the main dealers will be able to identify maps when you take the car in for simple servicing. This is in fact NOT true. I would have lost my main dealer service history had i listened to this false information

2 things,

1.how do you know the map is still on? have you been back to APR dealer and had it plugged in? or just backtracking now?

2. Even if its not been flashed to stock doesn't mean it hasn't been plugged in, they do check for outstanding software updates etc on service. This is how they catch all the TDI's that haven't had the software updates for emissions, when the owner has them serviced. I had 2 software updates done during my services on my old MK2 FR TDI back in 2008.

Just because they never mentioned anything to you doesn't mean they haven't TD1'd it already. be really interesting if you ever have to get any warranty work on engine or drivetrain carried out later on.

APR,Revo etc all warn to flash back to stock because dealers are now **** hot at detecting stuff like this, if I plug my car into VCDS it comes up with APR in the software title.

If you have gotten away with it, good for you, not to say the next car will if it goes in for service, to say we are spreading miss information is a little strong, just trying to protect people from the monster that is stealers.

I'm surprised they don't check for codes at every service. And, as for charging extra.........

They will, then come out and say "sir, you have an error code for xxxxx which needs fixing, and by the way sir that's a wear and tear item so isn't covered under warranty"

they aren't going to miss a chance to make £££££

My mate has Golf R, he got it mapped at AmD. After seeing all the seat guys taking there leons in for service and loosing the map I warned him when he took it too VW for a service they may update the ECU and you will loose the map. AmD told him that they will not be able to do this as it wont show up as anything and it will not be lost. The car went in to VW for the service and low and behold they said absolutely nothing about the remap or exhaust and the map is still there? Can anyone explain this too me?

maybe there wasn't and update for the car, they don't release updates that often these days.

As I've said above just because they haven't mentioned anything doesn't mean they haven't manually added a TD1 to elsa pro or Saga 2.

They sure as hell will mention it come warranty work time.

Coming at this from an outside logical (If slightly cynical) viewpoint, it would be in the dealers interest not to tell you they knew about your re-map/modifications so that, as has been mentioned, come the time you want to claim for warranty work they have you by the danglies.

I see it much like car insurance. Insurers couldn't care less if you bend the truth on your cover. They get their money and if anything goes wrong they won't pay out due to you declaring false information. They won't point it out and stop you doing it though that's for sure.

If that's the case, you poor buggers have even worse dealers than we do. It would be very wise for UK car owners to familiarise themselves with what exactly is normal wear and tear.
