select control module
under basic functions, click 'fault codes'
once it's discovered some fault codes, click the button at the bottom (clear Codes -05)

my car now only seems to hold back sometimes, i can go for a drive and its spot on, other times its really slow and has no boost, am i right in thinking this is more MAF related?if it was a boost leak wouldn't it do it all the time?

Sorry drag this up from the depths but my 1.8t is experiencing this sort of fault. If I got a scanner like the 30+ quid readers on ebay will this show as a fault and is the scanner actually any good?! Sorry can't post a link!
I've tried a obd2 code reader but that shows nothing........unless there is anyone localish to me that can help!?

Look on shpock and Gumtree keyword vcds or vagcom and see who is around you for a quick and cheap diagnosis. Most charge £10/20 and will be more helpful than any dealer.
Vcds is what you want to buy if you're going to keep it. Will pay in the long run if you have no one about with it.

And to move Andrewwright's advice along a bit...

if you get knowledgeable with it then you could be the guy in your area helping others out for a small fee.
