Hello guys just had my rack changed over for a low milage one on my LCR 225.was having an issue for a while that 3 separate garages couldn't fix or diagnose.so I changed the rack over as I read online that a feeling of something loose behind the steering wheel would indicate that the rack needed done.well it wasnt. Kind of at the end of my tether with it!!my question is that this feeling of something loose behind the steering wheel is doing my head in and what could it be?oh and while Im here can anybody tell me if this uprated dogbone mount(not just the pollybush replacement) its the whole uprated mount.does it make any difference. Cheers in advance

re the dog bone mount
you can buy a complete uprated bog bone mount, however the most popular way to go is to buy the bushes as its the bushes that allow the movement.
There are 2 bushes. if you go really hard it can be detrimental to comfort via engine vibration so i'd advise going mid range.

and yes it does help in my opininon, many happy customer on here.

OK cheers andycupra I'll defo go the way of just replacing the bushes as it seems I'll save a few quid rather than replacing the whole unit.nice 1

Its hard to explain andy but here goes.when stationary theres a small like delay each time when you turn the wheel back and forth about 10 cm each way.you can feel it also when driving like there's a bit of play just as you start to turn the steering wheel then its like it catches up instantly and you can feel it turning the wheels until you turn the steering wheel the other way then its there instantly again and so on.feels like something needs tightened. Like I say hard to explain

The delay sounds like steering pump, but if you have play in the steering then there might be play in the tie rods or a tie rod. If that is the case then your ball joints might be knackered. Is there any uneven wear on the front tyres?

I was thinking ball joints. Also bottom arm bushes but they'd have to be hanging out to cause those symptoms.

Yeah I've had 3 different mechanics tell me that my balljoints are fine and had my tie rods replaced when done he the rack.I've had another guy have a look and he's going to investigate right in behind the steering wheel as he thinks it could be a bearing of some sort.another guy at my work says it could be a union joint behind the wheel!I've never heard of a union joint but I'm no mechanic.he will have a look at the weekend so here's hoping.cheers for the feed back guys

Question for rich, mate would a worn bottom arm bush feel like there's a slight knock at one of my wheels when going over bumps.noticed a little knock coming from my passenger wheel this morning coming home from work.it was just a slight knock, more of a very small rattle!think it might be tied in with the issues Im having already.what's next eh.ha ha.yeah she's definatly a labour of love!!

union joint was mentioned with a friends car but he sold it on before you did the work, but he had pretty much the same work done as your car, ie new rack, tie rods etc. he had a slight clonk when steering side to side when stationary.

you can find the union joint right at the bottom of the rack inside the car, couild see if there is pay in this?

I just had new drop links fitted mate so don't think its them but I do think it could be arb bushes as I think the two work together,or it could be connected to this steering issue. I've found a decent guy who knows his stuff so with his know how and my input we will hopefully get it fixed at weekend.cheers for all the feedback guys!

If you drive along at walking/jogging pace and just tap away at the brake pedal so to operate the brakes without actually stopping, you should feel a very light thud through the floor. Thats the arm bushes worn. Gotta do mine at some point.
The more i think about it though< the less i think its the problem on your car.

Just to let you know guys my Mechanic mate had a go on this steering issue and couldn't find anything to explain this loose feeling when turning the steering wheel he thought it might have been the union joint but it looked fine and not worn at all ,so looks like I will just have to live with it or get another guy in there for a second opinion. He sees and felt exactly what I'm experiencing but hasnt seen or dealt with an issue like it before.I'm even thinking of taking it to my seat main stealer to see what they have to say on it.aahhhh!!!proper frustrating

Is your car low? So u have to push on the steering wheel hard every time you are getting out of the car?
There might me some play in the steering column because of that.
