Buying a K1 - advice please

Hey, I've finally registered after lurking on SCN for quite a while in my debate for buying a Cupra K1. I've looked at others online FR, R etc but I really like the K1 styling and don't have the time to retrofit the K1 kit.

I've been looking at the Candy White ones which appear to be the most common but an Inferi Black one has come up for sale near me and I'm going to see it this weekend as I fancy something less common and really like the purple fleck colour. Plus it's a genuine K1 according to the 'How to tell if your K1 is Real' thread so that's an added bonus.

Now the not so great part, it's quite a high miler at 84,000 and as far as I know the cambelt has been done recently as well as a service every year, the first two from SEAT and after that independent garages (roughly the same area).

I'm hoping you guys can point me in the right direction at things to look out for as I've not had a VAG car since my MK4 Golf GTI 20VT in 2012 and cant really remember the common 'faults' - went Vauxhall never again

If I decide to buy it the first thing I'll be doing is changing the oil/filter, camshaft follower for piece of mind and run it on V-Power to clean out any crap (I read the whole carry on with the intake manifold getting coked because of the direct injection)

It's had two owners and appears to be completely standard which means it could be a good base car for at least a remap as the gains far outweigh the cost - smiles for miles and all that! ;)

Any help would be much appreciated!

OK when you see it when he first starts the engine stand outside with the bonnet shut if it sounds like a diesal a little rattley it will need a new camchain and tensioner, but if your doing that a massive oversight is not to change the oil pickup and cam adjuster and housing that's a £900 job altogether most if not all tfsi will be suffering this, a lot of people will say it does not effect them, if he has already had it done bonus.

Thanks for that mate, I'll be listening with my ears wide open haha. Just been reading up about it, sounds costly!

Anything else to look out for?

so you have the chain covered

make sure the timing belts been changed with the water pump if it's not been done that's £340 job, if he says it's done ask to see a receipt, most with 75k on the clock need a new clutch my 06 sport tfsi running 250 bhp has had a belt change, cam chain, cam cover, cam adjuster, cam tensioner, oil pick up pipe, new clutch, cam follower, new rear springs, right rear caliper, both handbrake cables, new rear hub bearings and discs and pads, electronics on the inlet manifold, injector no3, new rubber gaiters on front drive shafts, 2 new gy eagle f1 type 3, all in the last 12 months it's just had its 10th birthday and has just hit 75k but I look after my car she drives like new I have a bag full of receipts, look for a seller like this.

front arches rust have a good look, rear springs fail as there from an audi tt not like the front from the vw gti mk5, rear calipers bind or handbrake cable seize listen for brake disc squeal you may need to change both with the disc's.

a good body shop will charge £240 for each arch my cars has also had this done.

Goodluck and I am not selling my car for another 24 months lol.

Another thing to check for is to make sure that there is no cracks to the plastic on the top of the HPFP, if there is then it's going to fail at some point and is around £200 to replace

Thanks for being honest mate. I've had my fair share of **** over the years (fast **** mind) so I know things will need done, like you said nothing lasts forever. At least I now have an idea of what might need sorted. I'll write this all down on a bit of paper and take it with me so I can go down it like a checklist haha.

I brought a curpa about 2 months ago, was immaculate but had 93000 on it. Took a chance on her. Now needs. New pcv, new exhaust, full service. Just set off on a weeks holiday and had wipers stop and start working at random times. Indicator to the right stops working now and again. Belt is squealing its tits off all needs fixing when i get back. Hopefully throw a grand at it and it will be ok for a while. Hasnt been the most trouble free car i ve had but hey ho. Im a cupra man deep down.

This part here mate, mines had a crack in it which was no where near as bad as this one pictured, within a day of two the car was pretty much crippled with fuelling issues

From my experience it's just this "you buy a fast car expect bills". Just paid out £600 for new tyres. Got my 4 year service in two months time (£250ish?). And need my map redoing (£400). Just had to get an alloy repaired £150. I did get a set of free stickers though so not all bad eh!? :D

That's unfortunate, did you check over it before buying or just look at it face value and take a chance like you say?

At that mileage it'll be beneficial to have the inlet cleaned by hand,

My main point would be not to pay too much for it!

Where you on Facebook Tfsi page the other day asking a similar question

Yh was very particular. Also drove it about 10 miles, i dont normally buy cars with mileage that high. Seeing as most of the golf gti's were on 120000 for more money aswell i thought id go for it. I dont mindthrowing some money at it tho. Atleast i know its been done then.
