Bootlid harness issue

I've just become the owner of a 5F SC. Unfortunately it had some aftermarket parking sensors fitted rather badly. The power was taken off the reverse light wire in the bootlid harness. There is a gaiter between the boot lid and roof. I took the roof end off to access the harness and remove the spliced wire and try to repair the harness. Unfortunately the damage done to the gaiter when it was removed forcefully by the person fitting the sensors meant the clips were cracked and weakened. When I unclipped it it was surprisingly easy and one of the clips fell apart. Now the gaiter won't clip back into the roof correctly and so won't seal. I'm sure it's going to let water in. I need some advice on how to replace the part. The whole boot lid harness is going to have to go through the new part (is that possible?). I guess I've got to get the boot lid trims off so I can unplug every connector and thread it through the new gaiter.

Gaiter part no. is 5G6 971 829B so you know what I'm on about.

Does anyone have any experience of doing this and how difficult it might be? Is it going to be fixable? Quite unhsppy since I've just got the car. I just wanted to remove the parking sensor wirings etc because it was such a crappy 14.99 kit. Thanks for any help!

I did try the search function, found the thread about removing various interior trims (can't post link sorry) but it didn't make things much clearer as it doesn't have boot lid. I've heard people say it just pulls off but I really don't want to break any clips or anything.

So if anyone is interested I've removed the two trims on the rear hatch. The whole harness doesn't have to be disturbed though as there are 2 connector blocks right where it comes through the rubber boot. As long as they fit through the rubber part it should be OK. Also have to disconnect third brake light and feed that connector through.

Let me know if there's anything you need to know under the trims - its a bit of a b:censored: getting them off without breaking anything.

I've got the new rubber seal boot fitted and I'm in the process of re fitting the tailgate trim. Not sure if the plastic trim will fit quite as well as when it first went on because it takes so much leverage to remove. I've checked with the SEAT dealer and a replacement trim is only about £50 though so no big deal.

Biker which problem are you having?

One of the clips on the gaiter between the roof and tailgate is snapped, so it isn't sealed properly. Do you have a part number for the gaiter, I will replace it if it isn't too much trouble.
I don't have an issue with removing the plastic trim from the tailgate, I have taken it off before and it all went back no problem.
At which point does the wiring harness join, is it in the tailgate or the roof?

The harness joins in the tailgate. To thread it through the gaiter I had to remove the wires from the connector blocks. I disconnected the battery first.

Hi Fox,
When you say removed wires do you mean you have to remove the wiring pins from the plugs or just unplug each wire from the connector?
I am wondering if you need a repinning tool.
