Actually 5D and SC exhaust system is about 5kg lighter than old 280 version had. It has also lower back pressure. Reason for having "old" exhaust for ST was more or less because Seat wanted to keep it more "family car".

Yep I agree! ST is more a family car

I have had it confirmed by Seat uk that new ST 290 now DOES include the new upgraded exhaust.
They came back to me a few days later via telephone after raising the question regarding all of this confusion!!

Sorry I didn't actually ask that as it was in relation to the order placement of my ST 290. They said the exhaust is new and improved and lighter and the same as all other 290's as per there latest brochure. They said they don't understand why there is confusion as no where does it stat that the ST is different!

We need to put a 280 ST and 290 ST on a bridge and compare... But my 290 ST is quiet I can confirm and several others owners say the same. And then there are a few owners where it does sound sporty. Total confusion...

The main difference is the removal of the centre box... Just have a look under the car and see if it's there!

I read some threads about exhaust system and still confused. My 290st is quiet I think beacause of other videos of 5D/SC. But I've not other 280ST to compare. Maybe next weekend at big Seat meeting here in Czech.

I got my build week in today! :)
Ordered 26th of May and my dealer confirmed that build date is set in week 28 (11th-17th July), meaning 8 weeks from order to manufacturing and another 2 to 3 weeks until arrival. Was expecting this so no surprises.
Now if only I could bend time...:weedy:

Picked up my Leon Cupra 290 Black last Friday, & after a week, 270 miles and a full tank later ... I can say I love it!!

Going from a mk1 leon fr tdi to the cupra 290 was obviously a crazy but luxurious choice. But after test driving the Ibiza cupra and then the leon cupra, I was hooked on the 290 :D!

The only negative;
I am abit disappointed in is the sills, you'd think the cupra black being the top spec would have the aero pack side skirts? However, a very silly negative that most likely can easily be fixed.

My best part about the car, the smile it puts on your face on sport or cupra and the pops and bangs when letting off are just epic :p

overall, its an absolute beast!!

How are you managing the break-in? did you push it hard from the start?

I'll be heading to pick up new Cupra 290 this Saturday. Got a 470 mile journey home from collecting so plenty time to get used to it. Only difficulty will be in avoiding constant speed on motorways over that distance. Need to work out a route that lets me take some B-roads.

Mine was built on 6th of June. Still not got an expected delivery date.

I've emailed the lease company to see if I can cancel my order as they are now doing the black edition for £131 a month. If I lose my £180 arrangement fee I'll make this back in about 4 months.

I'd imagine you'd have it very soon it built then? .. Black edition for £131 a month? What company is that with and what deposit?

Centralukvehicleleasing is the company.

It's £2400 deposit, which is pretty steep I guess. But the monthly payments are next to nothing

Well, it looks like that after nearly 6 years away from Seat ownership, that I'll be using UK Central Vehicle Leasing to hopefully get a 290 manual 5-door (black edition) in Monsoon Grey. I just can't decide on the hatch or ST as both are the same price at £132/pcm (5000 miles) or £156/pcm (8000 miles). I really want to see one in the flesh but I think Unicorns and money trees are less rare to find!

That's a good deal! I've paid a £800 deposit and monthly payments of £240 with 10k p/a which I can't really complain about..

Evoke1xt - do you need an estate? Or would it just be a nice to have

I've got a 3 year old so additional boot space is always helpful, but I've currently got a Megane 225 5-door (which would sit alongside the Cupra) and don't want for boot space. As you say, it would just be a nice to have. Some cars suit the tourer look better in my eyes, like the new C-class or the CLA - I'd just like to see one up close! I'm not sure the leasing company will have this deal for much longer either so need to move fast!!
