Plastic Inner wheel arch

Got hit on the motorway by a large rubber strip that flew off a vehicle a couple of cars in front.[:@]

It went under the car as it had landed just before I hit it. However it has taken out the bottom of the drivers side plastic inner wheel arch.

Anyone know whether it is easy to repair or does it involve dismantling the front suspension?

Anyone know how much it costs?

Also noticed graunching sound from power steering when turning left, however this could be due to the fact that the broken part of the wheel arch was rubbing against the inner part of the drivers side wheel. (The strip that has broken off is still attached at the inner most end)

It is an easy repair, I have just replaced the passenger side one, I took the wheel off and was able to get at all the screws. I just needed the front section, it cost about £35 from David at Sere.

You would happen to know the part number would you?

Got the part from a local seat dealer for around £35. When fitting it decided to clean the inside of the alloy wheel and remove the weight tape. Isopropyl Alcohol is excellent for this job.

Seeing as I had the jack out I though I would do the other front wheel as well. On removing the wheel I found a hole had been smashed in the back of the wheel arch presumably by the same strip that flew at me. Fortunately was able to patch it by cutting a section out of the old part I had just removed and gluing it over the hole. I suspect the rear wheel arch would be much more expensive.

I think they are too thin and hence easily broken.

Do we think theres a manufacturing fault with these? My driver side has a hole in it too. Never had this happen on any car Ive had in 30 ish years of driving and around 700,000 miles of travel. Ive never heard of anyone having wheel arch liners being penetrated on various forums. Just a thought? Has anyone tried a warrenty claim? My cars in for a service at the end of the month and thats what Ill be pushing.
