I've replied to a post on Briskoda, to which MantaOwner has replied over on there....

But I wondered whether others experienced the same as me on here with start/stop on their new Ibiza's?

Start the engine, from cold (been sitting overnight)...drive 30 metres to the end of my road, foot on brake (DSG) and the start/stop will engage.

It had me wondering since I thought surely this must not be good for the engine whilst it is cold?

That doesn't sound right - according to the book one of the preconditions is that the engine is at operating temperature. I doubt a 30 meter drive would result in operating temperature being reached.

I'll test mine later.

Right. 6.5 degrees showing on the trip computer this morning.

Start the car, drive to the end of my road and come to a stop, foot on brake. Nothing. I was sort of relieved!

Drive round the corner (coolant and oil levels both showing '--- degrees') come to a stop, foot on brake and start stop kicks in.

This is a funny system!

I did a brief couple of tests this morning but was unable to get the stop-start to kick in until a good distance had passed from my initial set-off.

Weird.

Weird.

My Leon 1.4ecotsi does the same too - dsg and 16 plate.

I try to turn off start stop until my engine is warm before activating it... It's not consistent however where sometimes start stop is activated not long after I drive when the engine temperature isn't in the middle of the gauge yet

First day today taking 4 of my kids to school in the new car - space wise it's a little tight in the back but kids seemed happy enough. To be honest they all love getting in the car and then requesting their favourite music via CarPlay. Only downside, and I thought it would be, is those damn manual window winders in the rear - three times now the windows have dropped due to them being knocked as the kids get in and out of the car. I may just take the damn things off!

Another positive is the size of the boot - very generous size for the class of car.

5 days on and I just cant believe the power in this little car - it is so tractable and flexible, pulling really strongly from low down in the rev range right up to the red line. Still smiling!

Great news Mark. Glad you're enjoying the car.

I agree with the size of the boot it is very generous.

I'm getting used to the DSG gearbox now. It has its quirks but you soon get used to them and the drive is super smooth.

Filled up my tank this morning and calculated the MPG on the first tank, *gasps*, 33MPG.

I hope that's a combination of a new engine bedding in and me getting used to the car. Anyone else keeping track of their MPG in the 1.4 EcoTSI? Bear in mind I'm driving the 1.0EcoTSI so I'd expect better results than the 1.4!

I don't bother for the first few fillups given my enthusiasm for the car tends to make the mpg figures a bit meaningless!

Once I have finished the next few tanks I'll measure it - it does drink it when driven quickly but I expected that.

To get the mirrors to fold there is a position right round to the bottom on the switch.
Holding my key fob down when locking doesn't work for me. Does it work for anyone else?

To request the beta, send them an email telling them what car you have and that the current app doesn't work. If you don't want to do that, they told me it'll be available publicly in a few weeks anyway :)

Any news on this app ? Does it work with the new FR ? And is there a option for folding mirrors with the fob ?

Since I've owned mine I've drove nearly 1000 km and long term it's doing 16.9 km per litre.

I just wonder about Carista future support, ie will the app automatically get updated - or a "new software available" prompt appear on the phone?

Why I ask that is, it seems like as this Carista company is a modern company, it appears that it will only communicate to owners of its products by Facebook or Twitter.

I've owned the "pro" version since November 2015 and have never ever had any updates or update notifications.

All or most of these later car "needs" have been addressed by VCDS by issuing s/w updates as long ago as January or February.

In really cold weather I have started switching the cabin fan off and leaving it off until the temperature gauge has reached 90C, if you do that, when you stop at lights and everything is still cold, stop/start will kick in - switch the cabin fan on and the engine will start, I also thought if the coolant was still cold that stop/start would be disabled but it seems like if the battery charge level is okay - in these conditions stop/start will be enabled.

Please note, I was finding that by demanding warm air in the cabin, the engine coolant was taking longer to reach 90C - so I was just trying to allow the engine to heat up quicker and so be more economic quicker by switching the fan off.

My "other" car has stop-start and according to the handbook stop-start can be disabled because of the state of the battery, the electrical load, whether aircon is on, defrost is on, the car is on a slope, at altitudes of more than 3000metres (yes really!) and low external or battery temperatures - and a few other things depending on options.

But note engine temperature is not one of them. I suppose the argument must be that the potential savings are greatest when the engine is cold so, provided the battery is well charged etc it should be enabled.

Ha - I was like that the other day too - down to 15 miles on the computer. Driving like a granny - find it sooo difficult not to use the acceleration though.

Did you ever have pretty bad consumption when it was new? On board computer showed me as getting 29MPG (yes, 29!!!!) on my way home today. Drove no different to how I drove my old 1.2 TSI and that used to average 40MPG

Try taking the brick out of your right shoe! Mines never been that bad, even really hammering it. Done 4 tanks now all have been over 40mpg

I haven't had the guts to try it yet. Maybe when it's out of beta I'll give it ago!

I think the idea behind Carrista is great however there appears to be some concerns about the use of the software and the possibility of bugs being in the software. This could mean you change something in your car but then would not be able to change it back due to the wrong coding being set etc?

I'm going down the VCDS route I think - I can't afford the official cable so need to find a reliable copy on eBay or something.

I'd keep "mum" about that as you are suggesting that you are buying illegal copy of someone elses software.

After buying a new car, buying a legal version of VCDS is "sweetie" money - unless you have over spent?

I do agree about Carista, it has not got a clue which settings my early 2011 S4 have been set in at the factory!

Jeez.

Not 'overspent' as I don't buy new cars I only lease to a budget.
