Ibiza FR 1.4 EcoTSI ordered

Has anyone upgraded from a facelift 2012-2015 to a brand new one? I'm interested what improvements there has been to the interior quality wise. Obviously, the radio, climate control and steering wheel unit s have been upgraded but the rest looks the same as mine.

I had a 2013 FR and it was plagued with rattles. Particularly from the speedo area. My new 2016 FR is a different league. I'd say it's much more like a Polo inside now, no more low rent plastic on the dashboard. Although Mark says the plastic on the door cards is cheap, it's better than it used to be!!!

Suspension is much better and a lot less crashy. The handbrake is leather covered now. The speedo surround is now just one piece of plastic instead of two which rubbed together and creaked. The knobs and switches are also much improved and match the Polo.

My Windows now no longer rattle when open. Soundproofing as a whole seems to have been improved.

The sound proofing is good for a small hatchback - road noise is very subdued even on the 205/40/17 tyres. It's only when the speed increases substantially that the noise becomes a little intrusive.

I am coming from a Leon 205/55/16 to this car 215/40/17 and the Leon was a lot smoother and quieter but by no means is the Ibiza uncomfortable

The Leon is a nice car. My Merc had horrendous road noise on its 225/45's - bad for a premium car.

I've got 215/40/17 Bridgestone Potenza summer tyres and in a 2 weeks old Ibiza Coupe it's the worst tyre noise I've ever had in any of the cars I've ever driven. Even a 2010 Kia Pro Cee'd was quieter on some very worn Michelin summer tyres. It seems that the Potenza is a very noisy tyre, someone can confirm that maybe.

I have the Potenza on mine and I will admit they are rather loud but only over 40mph. Around town they are fine.

More worryingly, the average mpg for my first tank on the trip computer is currently showing 36mpg. I guess that will be over estimating too! Got three bars remaining so will update when I fill up!

Mine is wearing Dunlop Sport Maxx - I certainly don't think they are loud at all.

The dunlops on mine do appear to have a 4-5 db lower noise than other comparative tyres according to the websites.

Where do these figures come from? 4/5 db is a lot on official figures, but I'm well aware that in the real world on real roads (especially coarse motorways) actually differences between tyres can be very substantial - far beyond official figures.

Thanks - useful to know. I was a bit disappointed with the road noise on the demonstrator I drove - pity I didn't check the tyre brand. All that said, as I said above I have found real world differences on real roads can be far more than different than the official figures would suggest. Official figures are taken on smooth dry tarmac, not course concrete.

Indeed - I read a few threads on various forums and the Dunlops seem to be a popular tyre to switch to if you are looking to reduce road noise - they have excellent grip in wet and dry although do not have a gradual 'let go' - they apparently are a bit all grip, no grip.

I have dunlop sportmaxx on my astra vxr (283bhp and 333 lb/ft torque) and i really like them - expensive but last well and road noise is greatly reduced compared to the bridgestone potenzas that where on it when i bought it. Grip well in the wet which I can't honestly say any other tyre does!!

It's odd how the car manufacturers use different make tyres on same model cars - must be a combination of scale and single source risk alleviation.

I've replied to a post on Briskoda, to which MantaOwner has replied over on there....

But I wondered whether others experienced the same as me on here with start/stop on their new Ibiza's?

Start the engine, from cold (been sitting overnight)...drive 30 metres to the end of my road, foot on brake (DSG) and the start/stop will engage.

It had me wondering since I thought surely this must not be good for the engine whilst it is cold?
