Rear Breaks Pads - Bad uneven wear, possibly binding?

Hi All

Just had my rear tyres replaced and the guy fitting them asked me if i wanted to look at my rear breaks as when he took the wheel off he spotted the pads had bad uneven wear.

The outer pad has lots of meat on it but then he showed me the inner pad which was just starting to touch metal of the pad

So thanked him for bringing it to my attention and said i would have a closer look at it myself later. As just forked out for new tyres

Been researching what could be causing it to bind so bad, if that's what it is doing? From what i have read it could be pointing to the slider pins not moving freely, so needs cleaning out and re-greasing.

Could be alot of things i know but looking at the things i feel confident that i could attempt to fix myself. I have changed discs and pads before myself but if it comes to me having to strip down a calliper then i don't want to risk it, as its my breaks at the end of the day so quite important

Any suggestions what to check would be great as alot of the links in other threads are dead. Also what grease do you lot recommend to be used for the slider pins?

It's not the pins mate it's the piston that's fecked you'll need to replace the calliper or try get a rebild kit, happened to me b4 my mot I just got a calliper out the scrapies least you no there all original parts.

aaa Sh*t, was hoping it was not the case, thinking about it i had a break service last year or year before on them as they were binding but it must be doing the same thing again so probably going to be new callipers as don't thing garages bother taking them apart just replace them.

Not sure i would want to get replacements from a scrappy as they will be quite old for my car and could just have the same problem again in a few years time? Would rather spend more and get them new so i dont have to deal with this problem again, as car would be replaced sooner before callipers had this problem again me thinks

I've had mine on nearly a year now and it's still perfect, it's ok if u have the money but if u haven't then scrapies it is, plus there all genuine seat parts unlike the other that none seat dealers sell.

Lost hardly any brake fluid so was easy to bleed back up.

Is there any guides? Did you not have to bleed all the break fluid out?

LOL went to Seat dealer to have a laugh, just to see how much new callipers cost, as i needed a replacement bulb for rear break light and as you can probably guess, i only walked out with a replacement bulb £170..... EACH

Just need someone to step on the brake pedal while you bleed them.
You can change all the fluid if you want but can be difficult to bleed if air gets into the abs pump.
Think I lost 200ml at most and just topped up.
Few guides on here but if you can move a spanner then it's pretty easy.

Mate it's really just common sense, wheel off,two nuts back of calliper, caliper of, clamp hose, disconnect hose and hand break cable, done. Put parts back together then bleed brakes

Hear a MK2 thread how to do it but all the same mate.

Nice one cheers to you both, have got a garage to take a look at it today who will have a closer look and confirm what is at fault without charge If its just needs a break service (Clean up / re-grease) i will get them to do it but if it needs new discs/pads and callipers i will give it ago myself.

Thanks for the link to the guide but it only looks to show how to change pads and discs not the calliper but still good to refresh my memory on how i did it last time. Will search the net for guides on changing callipers .

Instead of taking the pins out just take the two bolts out and the caliper will come of then just undo everything like I said, it's easy mate.

Also all you need to do is change that part so you can follow part guide lol

Thanks for all the help! Took it to local garage who offer a free break check, they confirmed that callipers are ok and greased up my slider pins as one was not moving, but said my discs and pads need changing... Bit cheeky but just thanked them and said i will think about it as did not want to pay £180.
So ordered the parts plus windback tool and did it myself today..... WINNER

Ive got a MK1 Cupra r with the red callipers fitted.
Are they Brembos all round or just on the front?
Did a couple of miles yesterday and noticed a burning smell when id stopped. The osr caliper was hot and the source of the smell.
To be honest, im not sure if id left the hand brake on 1 click so will be driving it again before i start buying parts.
Obviously the car has been sat around a fair bit over the last few weeks due to the lockdown and maybe lack of use has caused this problem to occur sooner rather than later. Only had the car a couple of months and the rear pads n discs look new.

Classic symptoms of sticking caliper, may have been caused by sitting around for long period. Keep an eye on it to see if it frees its self up.

If it doesnt have alook at a&a core on Facebook and ebay they refurbish calipers and powder coat them. Cost me about £250 for four calipers to be refurbished and powder coated on my mk2 fr

I think you are right. Going to try and fix it sooner rather than later. Once the world starts turning again, ive got some decent mileage to do so the car needs to be ready to go.
