The gear knob in my car is worn and is getting worse where the top layer of the coating has worn through to a sticky glue layer. The gear knob model is the same as pictured below:

and benj1989 had the gear knob carbon dipped which seems like a good alternative to buying a new knob.
More info in this thread: http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=337957

Question is, will the carbon dip coating last?

Alternatively, is there another solution to my problem, maybe getting it recovered in real leather, or buying a different model gear knob that won't cost the earth?

When I bought my car I thought that the gear knob was real leather, is the steering wheel made out of the same awesome long-lasting material as the gear knob?

TIA

Found this on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261458349448 as far as I know it should fit the Leon. Obviously not a genuine part and claims to be leather, probably made in China. I just can't justify spending £60 - £75 for a new gear knob.

Are there any other VAG cars that have compatible gear knobs for the Leon, like Jetta, or Audi?

You would imagine the gearknobs from the Audi's and Golfs would be compatible, but again they dont tend to be cheap. The Cupra/FR ones are roughly £80-90 new lol.

It's crazy, I can't justify that price for a piece of plastic. SG Petch have some gear knobs that are slightly cheaper than some other places: http://seat-leon.sgpetch.co.uk/page...nterior/accessory=Spherical+Gear+Knob/id=5415

or this for £47: http://seat-leon.sgpetch.co.uk/page...erior/accessory=Speed+Metal+Gear+Knob/id=5430

The SEAT Sport ones, like the ones in the link, are really nice to use, as they are well weighted and sit a bit lower than standard. I don't think the SG Petch prices include VAT though, so even with the discount they are still quite pricey.
