hi guys, considering getting a mk3 cupra 280. just wondering what other bits I can change using VCDS? I used to have a mk1 cupra and changed a few basic things in it.

are there any 'optional extras' which can simply be enabled via VCDS rather than buying a model with that included?

guessing not, but the tweaks on the first page seem to be pretty much the same (and less of them) as the tweaks for the mk1 cupra.

I didn't see this one listed so thought some people might like it.

Enable Refuel Quantity in display

Controller 17 - Instruments
07 - Coding
{enter long coding helper}
Byte 10
Enable Bit 4

vcds-refillqty-arrows2.png

(Change Byte to accept the new coding and then Exit followed by Do It!)

This the gives this display

Cool - might try this.

I have run mine as low as I dare ( last bar flashing and 0 miles remaining ) and I still can't get the quoted 50ltr in to the tank

Best I have achieved is 48.18ltr at fill up.

Hey guys,
I'm being thick!

How do you flip the image from the reverse camera (mines upside down).

I know you can do it, I just can't remember how.

If this is one you fitted yourself there are normally some links you need to cut to inverse the image.

I don't think you can do it in the head unit.

Yeah I fitted it myself. The thing is there is only 2 options, cut 1 wire and it gives guide lines, cut the other and it flips it so left is right and right is left.

No Upside down?
I'm sure I have seen it as an option on VCDS though?

CARBON BACKGROUND TO MEDIA SCREEN

Select 5F ( Information Electronics )
Then coding - 07
Then click on "long coding helper"
Go down to byte 17
Un-tick bit 1
Tick bit 2
Exit
Click "do it"
After it says code accepted - come out of all the controllers
Do a system reset - hold power button in for 30 seconds

You now have carbon background to the media unit.

Just out of interest, when you have proper vcds and latest software (I have a generic cable and some generic BT adapters none of which work with vcds or vcds lite)
How do you know what tweaks do what? Are there options which are described as such or is it all like hex codes which you have to know specifically which bit to change etc?

Tempted to buy one but if all the settings are uber vague then I'm not sure I will try , especially since I'd maybe wanting to charge others for the use of it to make some of the money back on it, if things are not obvious then I most likely won't have time to become an expert on all vag cars to be able to do that.

I guess most people get their info from the interwebs, nothing is really clear (a lot of it in german).

Would people pay for this service? maybe they would, I've always thought people just do people favors.

Well I'd obviously do people favours off of this forum... But for ones wider afield (and other makes etc) I might have asked for a beer token or two. Sorry didn't mean to come across all money grabby. I don't know if I'd personally get 300 Quid's worth of use out of it myself tbh. So..
Also people who I have asked for the use of their vcds on here in the past wanted 20-30 quid for it from memory so assumed it was standard practice.

maybe its normal then... i never thought of asking for anything myself, maybe i missed a trick lol. makes sense i guess to cover some of the costs cos it is a lot to fork out for just a few changes.

You can get crack copies on ebay for less than £20.00.

A little bit of both.

The forums and rosstech support are very helpful

VCDS itself is quite intuitive - you have various modules labelled for different car areas - and in each area - drop down menus.

i've downloaded what i assumed is a hooky copy of it, but unless you have the proper cable its no use! it sees i have a cable plugged in, just it tells me it isn't a rosstech one.

yeah, i had used a very old version when i had it on my mk1 but there was a lot of german (would have thought there would have been some translation in there by now!) in there, i remember some things were in there but i think my copy was still quite old for the car and not everything was in there/obvious etc.

I'll have a deeper scan of the rosstech site as i do remember it being quite overwhelming with the amount of stuff on there.
