Hello everyone, I'm relatively new to this forum; I thought that since my friends weren't interested in my project, maybe you would be :p

I'm Jordan, 16, from Northern Ireland. I've always loved cars and I really want to have a nice car from the moment I can legally drive (in a couple of months, soo excited). Nice cars are expensive so I decided to embark on a project with a salvage car (with some expert help from my dad). Choosing the car was no real issue, it just had to be an Ibiza.

Late 2014 I bought a Category D 1.2 Ibiza from a salvage yard in the UK mainland, it sort of had to be a 1.2 because the insurance would be unaffordable for me for any larger engine. Here she is: (if the links work)

What needed replacing:
Radiator (the only mechanical issue)
Lights
Bumper
Grill
Dashboard (incl airbag)
Steering wheel airbag

And don't worry, those awful hub caps won't be sticking around!

I decided that since the front bumper needs replaced it was the perfect opportunity to get a full body kit. We went for a genuine Seat one (front bumper, back bumper, side skirts, spoiler) which from Seat would have been over a 1000 quid but I sourced one from eBay (fully genuine) from a place which was closing down for just over £400.

Currently the car is away to have the mirrors painted black, the body kit fitted and sprayed, and the other mild dents and scratches are being repaired. I’ll update the thread tomorrow when I call in to check up on progress.

If you have any questions or, even better: advice, please reply!

Thanks

Big changes in 24 hours. Dad secretly asked for the car to have a complete respray (where he got the money I have no idea) to my favourite colour, rebel blue. I've never been so shocked in my life, I walked into the workshop and thought wow that colour looks good on an Ibiza, it took me a while to realise it was my own. By the way, rebel blue is not a Seat colour but I really like it. Here's a couple of progress pictures:

The colour is something people either love or hate but I think that it's going to look real nice. Here's a photo with the new back bumper fitted:

Should be fully assembled by Monday or Tuesday. We went for the double bulb headlights instead of the singles, it makes quite a difference! Thanks for your comments so far, and as always, I appreciate advice and am happy to answer questions.

This morning saw the delivery of the affectionately named Seat In-bits-a but this name is no longer appropriate as it is approaching completion. The lads down at GMG Bodywork in Crumlin done a cracking job, a super professional paint job. I think the body kit looks good too. It's a pity the colour doesn't show very accurately in pictures, it looks slightly different:

The front grill was a stroke of superscrimping genius. I don't think frontal debadging looks right (it's debadged in the above photos) on the Mk5 but a honeycomb grill with the badge was £70 at the cheapest so I bought a debadged grill at £20 and a Seat badge from a salvage yard for a fiver.

Next on the agenda, sourcing an affordable dashboard :help: and getting a set of black rims to match my new black mirrors. I've been shopping around, it's hard to get wheels for the Ibiza, I thought all VAG cars would be compatible with the same alloys but that was just my ignorance to reality. I haven't been overly impressed with the choice so I'm considering getting a set of good quality second hand 17" genuine Seat wheels and getting the guys at the Bodyworks shop to sort them out with a new black coat (or if I can wait until after my exams, I would give it a shot myself). I'm considering these, any thoughts?

It will hopefully be finished up in a week or two (maybe a bit optimistic) and I am so excited to be on the road, just over 2 months now to my seventeenth! :D :D

Those would look good black, pain in the arse to clean in-between the smaller parts of the spokes though!

Looks great, cool project.

that will be a one of a kind Ibiza. [B)]

Seat sell black rims for the Cupra, I think the would fit but I quess the price could be a bit steep. They look similar to the ones you posted a picture of here.

Cracking job man! keep up the good work, you're right about the rebadged look being rubbish, but instead if silver get the badges done black aswell it's a nice touch and it goes well with all the black trim :)

The project was put on hold for the duration of a my A-Levels but it's now summer and it's back on the go again. Fitting (and buying) a new dashboard was a pain, but necessary. The dashboard is one of the most expensive things that had to be purchased. In other news, I bought wheels! Won an eBay auction with one bid for a brand new set of genuine Ibiza wheels which are heading to the paint shop. Just one issue, gloss or satin black? Currently I'm thinking satin

Glad to hear you're getting back on track; hope your a levels went well. Post some pics when the dash is in. I think satin would look pretty good too as its a bit different.
