Took delivery of my Cupra today: My first impressions...
I took delivery of my Leon Cupra
280 today and took it for a good drive...although mostly in rush-hour traffic. I just got in from saying good-night to my new baby...thought it would be a good time to do a little "first impressions" post... (Tried to insert a couple of pictures but apparently I can't until I have made 15 posts...)
Man, I'm impressed...it is seriously rapid! Then again, I have been driving a little 1.0l Ecoboost Ford Fiesta for the past month...quite a difference, as I am sure you can imagine! The nice SEAT delivery driver (who apparently had not driven the Cupra yet) also commented on just how quick it is...said he got quite a shock when he opened the taps a little on the motorway. I felt a little bad for him...he had just driven all the way from York (to SW London) and then asked me for directions to the nearest station to get home.
Apart from the relentless neck aching acceleration, it is extremely easy to drive and docile around town...the DSG gearbox is excellent. I have not played with the flappy paddles yet...all in good time (I really want to hear those famous pops on upshifts with the DSG!). All the
reviews say that the ride is very firm, but I find it actually pretty comfortable. In fairness I have barely taken it out of comfort mode, but even still, I was expecting it to be quite a bit firmer (which is not a bad thing). It's only done just over 300 miles now so the engine still needs time to run in...so I am trying not to rev it too much, but it is hard to resist!
The interior is spot on, the seats are extremely comfy and grips you well around corners...the upgraded stereo is also very nice (I am a bit of an audiophile/bass-head). I like the LED lights in the doors, makes it look very modern...and they turn red in Sport & Cupra modes to add a little more drama. I have had a bit of issues with the Bluetooth connectivity, I couple of times I have had to manually connect via the phone's Bluetooth settings (iPhone 6)...may just be user error.
All in all, I absolutely love my new car...so glad I picked the Cupra over the (generic) Golf GTI. All thats left now it to attach the "SeatCupra.net"
stickers...which I'll do this weekend in daylight.
Look forward to contributing to the forum and maybe meeting a few of you at an upcoming event.
Cheers for now - Laurence
