I'm looking to do the same on mine but just the rears I think. Did you buy direct from FlyEye?
Also when you say dechromed for the grille, do you mean just wrapped?

Yeah I must admit the fronts have dimmed my lights at night half thinking to take them off now the winter is here. Yeah it's wrapped

Took delivery of my Cupra today: My first impressions...

I took delivery of my Leon Cupra 280 today and took it for a good drive...although mostly in rush-hour traffic. I just got in from saying good-night to my new baby...thought it would be a good time to do a little "first impressions" post... (Tried to insert a couple of pictures but apparently I can't until I have made 15 posts...)

Man, I'm impressed...it is seriously rapid! Then again, I have been driving a little 1.0l Ecoboost Ford Fiesta for the past month...quite a difference, as I am sure you can imagine! The nice SEAT delivery driver (who apparently had not driven the Cupra yet) also commented on just how quick it is...said he got quite a shock when he opened the taps a little on the motorway. I felt a little bad for him...he had just driven all the way from York (to SW London) and then asked me for directions to the nearest station to get home.

Apart from the relentless neck aching acceleration, it is extremely easy to drive and docile around town...the DSG gearbox is excellent. I have not played with the flappy paddles yet...all in good time (I really want to hear those famous pops on upshifts with the DSG!). All the reviews say that the ride is very firm, but I find it actually pretty comfortable. In fairness I have barely taken it out of comfort mode, but even still, I was expecting it to be quite a bit firmer (which is not a bad thing). It's only done just over 300 miles now so the engine still needs time to run in...so I am trying not to rev it too much, but it is hard to resist!

The interior is spot on, the seats are extremely comfy and grips you well around corners...the upgraded stereo is also very nice (I am a bit of an audiophile/bass-head). I like the LED lights in the doors, makes it look very modern...and they turn red in Sport & Cupra modes to add a little more drama. I have had a bit of issues with the Bluetooth connectivity, I couple of times I have had to manually connect via the phone's Bluetooth settings (iPhone 6)...may just be user error.

All in all, I absolutely love my new car...so glad I picked the Cupra over the (generic) Golf GTI. All thats left now it to attach the "SeatCupra.net" stickers...which I'll do this weekend in daylight.

Look forward to contributing to the forum and maybe meeting a few of you at an upcoming event.

Cheers for now - Laurence

So hang on he just admitted to you that he's thrashed your brand new cupra up the motorway? I dont know about you but I'd be pretty pissed. If I was getting a car delivery that way I'd definitely pay to get it delivered on the back of a carrier.

That's exactly what I thought!! I insisted they delivered mine and it's only a FR 184.

The dealer where I got it from (offered a good deal) was in York. I thought that it was going to be delivered on the back of a truck...but I guess it's my fault for not specifically requesting this or at least enquiring about how it was going to be delivered.

The delivery guy was quite an old well spoken guy...did not not seem like the type to abuse the car. He also mentioned the engine running in time and said he was mindful of not over rev'ing it. He went on to say that it's got so much torque low down in the rev range that you really dont need to rev it much to get it to go. It sounded like he just put his foot down for a moment and was pretty shocked and backed off...at least thats how he described it...but of cause he would! I really dont think he ragged it...

Anyway...the thought did cross my mind that since it was delivered with 230 miles on it (and a full tank of petrol by the way), only another 370 or so to go until I can let it rip! Like he did me a favour for part running it in... Although, its kinda part of the whole experience of getting a new car I guess. It's the first brand new, out of the box, car I've ever had...you cant beat that new car smell!

You cannot beat that new car feel and smell!! I doubt the delivery chap did anything other than just put his foot down and accelerate when joining the motorway and being surprised by it! You do have the Cupra with 280 horses after all!. Mine is the 1.8 tsi fr with 180 which hussles but with another 100 it must fly!! Enjoy!

When in 2009 we bought a new Golf via CarFile from Listers in Coventry, the broker assured us that it would be delivered on a flat-bed. It was in fact driven to us in south Wales with 170 on the clock. I should have checked with Listers to confirm what CF told me, but saw no need to at the time. I was not a happy bunny.

congratulations on your new arrival....hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.
I find myself driving everywhere with a big grin on my face...partly because of only just getting it, and partly because it is a hoot to drive. I was giving my brother & his wife a little test drive this evening...I put foot a little on a clear stretch of road and backed off quite early (it was wet and didn't want to scare them). A few seconds later some dude in a 1.6 Mk4 Golf came flying past, obviously trying to race me, which I was not even aware of until he came flying by at more than double the speed limit...the child inside me was giggling, "yeah, nice try buddy :p". Again...grinning from ear to ear...

Meppershall Beds.
and it was only a Golf - looking just like the other 18 million they've made.
although my daughter really loves her Mk5 GT Sport. Especially now it's been into VW and had some faults fixed.
runs really well for a 1.4, and she's very happy, but my 184FR blows it away.
her leather seats are more comfortable than mine, though.

I'm taking my 280 up to show my father (for the 1st time) today, which I am really looking forward to. If anything, my dad is even more of a petrol head than I am (probably where I get it from!). He used to race cars in his youth, telling me stories of his highly modified Ford Anglia with custom made wide wheels and trick carbs etc. His father (my Grandad who I never met) used to race professionally for Maseratti back in 1917 in Cape Town...where I am sure my dad's love of cars came from. I think the quickest car he has ever owned (since I have been alive at least!) was a E30 BMW 325is Shadowline back in 1993/4...which was pretty quick.

I am wondering if its wise to let him drive it since he's not insured to. To be honest, I trust him driving my new baby more than I trust myself...hes been driving for well over 40 years without a single shunt that I can remember...although he does drive like an old man these days, which I guess makes sence because he is! I might just hand the keys over for a bit...let him experience it 1st hand!

Nice as it sounds, you'll both get prosecuted and points if you knowingly let / drive without valid insurance. I'd stick to him being a passenger if I were you...

I thought about it on the drive there, and you are right Rob, its just not worth it. The chances of something happening are very small, but simply not worth the risk. I cannot afford to loose my licence as I rely on it for work...not to mention I would be completely liable for my car and anything/anyone he might hit (even if it was not his fault).

He absolutely loved it (as a passenger)...I stuck it into Cupra mode we did a couple of rolling starts from around 20mph on a clear dual carrage-way, "Christ it's quick" was his first comment. A really good afternoon and a nice father/son bonding experience... It's nice to have fun with the car with someone who really appreciates it.

Yeh, I have a good mate who has a Altea for his young family and used to have sporty cars before the kids came, and I always let him have a go in my new Cupra's once I have put the first 1000 mile on. He really loves his quick cars, just can't afford them at the moment, so it is great to let him have a go at what he is missing. He is insured 3rd party for other cars so legally it is ok.:D

Did they say when they hope to have a mould ready and be selling them andrewjb. Assuming it was a splitter they measured up for? Or is there anything else in the pipeline from them?

It was a full day on the splitter.. at 8am it was a large plank of wood... at 5pm it was a wooden splitter.

Hoping it will go of to the painters this week before being made into a mould..

Jan 2015 the first one should be ready.
