DAS6 + HexLogic Yellow + M105 = No cut!

Trying all sorts to correct my paint on my '09 Ibiza MK5 but getting nowhere! It's my daily driver and has done 90k miles. Last proper polish and wax was about 3-4 months ago.

As above I have a DAS6 with a Chemical Guys Hex Logic Yellow cutting pad and Meguires 105. Tried this on my Ibiza and it doesn't look to provide any cut so was wondering if anyone else has noticed it. I have used various speeds, with and without lots of pressure, small amounts and large amounts of 105 but still can't remove random deepish scratches from the paint.

I have checked out various videos and have tried different techniques like going up and down side to side, but also took it dead slow to try and build up some heat and still no cut!

I am new to this so my experience is limited in that respect but by all accounts this combination of products should be able to tackle most jobs!

I clean the paint with tar remover and use a clay bar beforehand and then get to work with the polisher but it's like granite! I can get a clean polished look to the panel from a distance but when looking closely with a bright torch it's a mess!

So, any other recommendations for products/technique?

Interesting, it will take quite a while to get full correction with a DA remember. Maybe your scratches are a bit too deep? Has it had any affect on swirl marks etc?

I think it has had a bit of an effect on the swirls so maybe your right in that I need to spend more time in one spot. Will give it another go they must be deeper than expected. Thanks.

Yeah, just be careful though 105 is pretty abrasive I think and so is the yellow pad. Are the scratches all the way through to the primer / metal? If so you wont be able to polish them out remember.

what grade claybar are you using? and how long on each area are you taking with the DAS. and again what cloths are you using to buff the residue off with?

Thanks for the advice. I think the scratches are in the clear coat only as you can hardly see them from above (only side on with bright light) and you can't get finger nail in.

Using Autoglym clay bar and microfiber cloths.

Have you ever tried Autobrite stuff? I swear by their stuff and if your ever stuck they are brilliant for advice. If you can try either their "enrich" which I think is the medium cut with 3.5 cut and 3.5 gloss, or try their restore which is for heavy swirls/scratches which seems to be what you are looking for, I think that is a 6 cut and 2 gloss, then finish off with a anti hologram something like "final finish" all with a medium cut pad though nothing to rough or you'll just kill your paint.

Your paintwork when you run your fingers over it does it feel bumpy and rough?

It's funny you should mention Autobrite products been looking for a while at them and they do seem very impressive. Thanks for the info will give them a shout when in the market for some new products.

yeah i live like 10 mins away but i would swear by their stuff and advice

Get a rotary, some 3m fast cut plus and the Indasa yellow pads, followed by the 3m yellow top fine polish on mushroom pad, then ultrafina and you'll have a stunning finish

VW paint is very hard so correction with a DA will take time just keep at it, it will come good in the end the first correction of a car is always the longest, then you'll only need to maintain it. If you do get a rotary please heed this warning.

It can go from good to bad very quickly..... buy a practice panel from a scrap yard.

105 & 205 is a tried and tested combo which works very well, there are others which will do the same job but I'd stick with what you've got IMO, why buy another compound which will do the same job?

hi guys if you are having problems cutting through hard clearcoat another option to try with the da is meguirs microfibre compounding pads and megs d300 compound. really effective when used properly. iv fully corrected bmws mercs vws with these. it will take time but it is possible its more tecnigue than anything and trial and error. also having both the rupees bigfoot machines which has a bigger throw than the normal das and flex3401 direct drive machines these will give quicker and better results for you guys without the danger of burning paint. hope this helps

With a DA the only way u get decent results its with a better combo/

Megs microfiber da correction kit its whay u need.

But what i would o its get a proper polisher and some menzerna 2500 and u are golden.
