Done mine this afternoon. Just been out for a short drive and the 3rd gear whine has definitely gone. So I'm well happy. [B)]

Mine didnt had this cover unfortunately, or I might be blind...

should do mate if you turn the wheel to the left you will see a black circle cover you have the same car as us so you should see it with the 6 speed fzq unless they built them different in Europe but I dought it gearbox wise and engine ect

Yea I know my car hasn't got the inspection cap you see, what I mean is are the internals compleatly different? Or if I take the metal outer casing off on the end can I still install the shim? That would be a big help to all pre 2003 gearboxes then you see

hmm not to sure on the pre 2003 boxes but mine is a 53 plate one,sep regs so I would guess it would be the same?6 speed with the fzq box,i read the manual and it shown what box I had,im not sure on where about you can check the box code

Thought I'd tackle this on my newly purchased '04 Cupra R £10 of parts and an instantly fixed whining gearbox :) huge smile on my face gotta be one of the best mods ever.

So glad I'd seen this thread.

On a side note I had to remove some of the under engine tray to get to mine was covering it up.

Hi - I ordered the part Tully recommended:-

WHT-001-976 for the shim..
O2M-301-211-B for the black end cap.

Just want to double check the shim is a full circle where as on the YouTube clip the shim isn't a full circle. Does this matter at all??

Cheers

Thanks - just watched it again. I think it took him such a long time to get it out that's what I remembered. Bought the parts - do you know the part for the Pain in the arse Clip (just incase).

Cheers

After living with a noisy gearbox for years, this is perhaps the best fix on here.

My box sounded bad and I mean bad in every gear (1-4 worst) I thought it was unrepairable. Was even coasting car out of gear down hills so I didn't have to listen to the noise lol!!

For the sake of £10 and a bit of persistence, my gearbox now sounds and feels 100% better....no noise. Couldn't believe it!!

To think a couple of years ago a local VW specialist quoted me £100's to get box fixed, which I was considering. Glad I didn't.

Yep TommyB - I had mine done with the Cambelt/Water Pump (2x weeks ago) - I had the 3rd gear groan. The garage wanted to repair the 3rd Gear (Gear Box). But I found this Shim fix on here - I was also coasting in 3rd - now can't hear any problem whatsoever. To think a few mm shim fixed it is unbelievable - my car is perfect (touch wood fingers crossed). Without the Forum I would have been lost and had a huge bill.

Thank you
Marv
ps. Still loving my LCR (150K now)
