Hi, first post for me, bought a 2010 Diesel FR at the start of this month and have found this thread and the FAQs on Speakers and Hi Fi invaluable.
At first was very tempted by the Veyron and other "No-Name" VW look-alike units but suspected that I would regret such a purchase in the long run. Some good branded examples here - the very expensive Kenwood bespoke unit being the best but of the affordable ones highlighted - the Pioneer, JVC and Philips I went with the Philips CED1800BT (with £65 GPS extras) from Ebay as seeming to be the closest to the features I wanted.
I will report on how I get on with it.

I too have been considering a double din unit but don’t want to spend over 300 really as I have other priorities not car related. I like the look of the oem ones and non branded oem replicas, but have heard too many horror stories. And If I spent alot on one I'd want to consider taking it out when the car goes. I want something that is symmetrical I.e not one button on one side but think the jvc one looks a bit plasticy. Any ideas?
The JVC looks good on my dash, especially at night as the red is very similar to the OEM backlighting. It looks good in-situ, not sure about my photography skills!
Brett, what, in total, did you need to buy to connect it all up?
So fakra to din connector, fascia, anything else?

I think the ISO harness was straight out the box, so that was it. I bought a small neoprene sleeve to keep the screen in though, for when it is removed, though that's obviously not an essential! Worth mentioning you will need an additional adapter to allow it to work with steering wheel controls, though it's never bothered me.
No steering controls on mine. May invest in a case for the front. Dont wanna leave it on in newport ;P haha

Contacted the seller to ask if the Philips unit comes with the cage and he said no...
Yes I presumed so and that isn't an issue really, the problem I have is figuring out what wiring kit is compatible, I have asked a couple of people such as Conrad Electronics whether their
Can Bus Adapter Vauxhall, SEAT, VW
would work with the Philips but no answer yet.

As a coincidence it arrived today, looks a nice bit of kit. I enquired of a few car hifi specialists what cable would be required to connect it so everything works with the Leon but got no replies so I ordered
"Seat Leon MK2 Double Din Fascia Panel Adapter Plate Cage Fitting Kit DFP-18-02" from Ebay.
Looking at the cables coming from the back, there is one that apparently must be connected to the handbrake sensor or DVDs will not show video (not a huge concern but potentially irritating).
There are 5 cables labelled OE SWC Remote or Learn which I gather are to do with interfacing with the Steering Wheel Controls but unless what they connect to becomes magically apparent when I take out the existing unit then I'm at a bit of a loss there.
Probably will have a go at it on the weekend. Have fitted loads back in the day but nothing this complicated.

To play DVDs you connect the handbrake cable, usually green, to ground (black on the wiring harness). If you get the correct wiring adapters they're all plug and play and don't require any rewiring at all.
Thanks very much for the handbrake cable info. I totally agree about getting the correct wiring adapter, the snag has been that Philips don't appear on any application lists I have found and nobody at a components supplier has replied to emails I have sent on the subject - sorry can't provide example links as I'm not allowed to do URLs yet.
Some progress, I gave up on Googling directly for what I imagined I was looking for and looked around the Connects2 site. There I found the CTSST001.2 interface lead that I had seen elsewhere but this time the applications list included Philips and so I discovered that CTPHILIPSLEAD is the Philips part.
Guys, can I ask which parts you purchased to install your chosen head unit? I'm reading alot of conflicting info and not sure if its still up to date or not. Wanting to order this week.
