thing is,looking at the sides of the door there is no water marks on the black plastic bits to say where its coming from.As daft as it seems it looks like it could be getting in at the back of the seat rail, did you physically see where it was running in?

I couldn't see where it was coming from on the back mate but it came in from under the front speaker when I went round a corner. Def wouldn't be coming from under the seat rail mate how would it get in there?

Is annoying mate but there awesome cars don't be put off. Get the butyl sealant follow the guide and do what I done and put the sealant around the top of the metal plate aswell and should sort it. Check all the drain holes underneath the rubber seal at the bottom mine was filthy under there.

Water ingress

Hey guys, I've been having the same issue - had a day off last week so I've stripped the interior out completely.

I've sealed up the pollen filter and drivers side, removed all door cards and sealed the inner units - hey presto, appeared to have done the trick.....alas it hadn't!

So having left the interior and door cards out for the week it's become apparent that the residual water the runs down the seals is sitting along the bottom seal and not draining out the bottom of the door. Plan tomorrow is to adjust the passenger door and see if loosening it slightly will allow this water to drain out rather then building up and then spilling over into the front footwell and running into the back.

Will let you know if that sorts it. You wouldn't notice that this was the problem if the interior an door trims etc were stripped out completely.

Have you checked the drain holes at the bottom? The ones at the top are a bitch to get to need to remove the metal carrier. I was lucky they must have been clear as I don't have water on the seals now.

Drain holes

Hey Ben, no haven't managed to locate these pesky drain holes yet? The water on the near side seal is just sitting there and only drains off when the door is opened. I was driving it about yesterday with just the drivers seat in and could actually see the water in the seal rolling back and forth when accelerating, left it overnight, more rain, and sure enough it was overflowing into the car and rolling to the back footwell.

On another note, some folk on here are saying to mop up moisture without removing interior, carpets and sound deadening. The problem with that is that most of the water is in the sound dreading (which acts like a sponge) and it has a hard top on it, so you'll not get it completely dry without removing it completely.....and it'll start to reek! The joys

That's what mine was doing mate. The bottom drain holes are under the rubber seal at bottom of the door mine was filthy. It just pulls off so easy to do. Check them more than likely them use a cotton bud and wash off the dirt.

Get hold of a dehumidifier mate and leave it in there until the bottle has no water in it. It sucks the moisture out I'm gonna put it back in mine in the week.

My interior, carpets and sound deadening are still all inside the house getting nice and dry on the radiators, much to my wife's disgust ;). Will get the passenger door leak sorted then fire it all back together. Want to make sure there's no more leaks.....especially living in the Scottish Islands!

Don't think a dehumidifier would get all the water anyway, that hard top on the sound deadening will probably keep most of the moisture from being sucked up....would probably dry out the carpets but that'd be about it!

Ah I see and I thought it was wet down here. You would be suprised mate how much they suck out. Ill see how it goes and might take out the seats and check. Hope you get it sorted such a relief when you do.

I've located exactly where the water's still getting - from below the front passenger door seal.

Had the hose oh her today and the water is coming in about half way along the bottom of the door seal and wither runs along the sill and down into the front footwell or just spills straight over the edge and runs into the back. Just as well I've got it stripped because you'd not be able to see the water coming in with the carpets and plastic trim still in place.

So my question now is, do I take the tigerseal and seal the bottom of the door seal into place and eliminate the chance for water to get in that way or go and buy a new door seal??

Anyone had the same issue?

Take all the old crappy seal off under the metal carrier and put on the butyl seal stuff mate and should sort it.

Hey Ben, no this is the rubber door seal on the car I'm talking about!! It's pooling underneath it on the inner sill and spilling over into the footwell! :-/

Have you resealed your doors for the common door seal fault? Because that's what mine was doing.

I pulled up my rear carpet slightly, Sponged a TON of water out and then squeezed as much water out the sound deadening that I could.

There is still a lot of water weight in the deadening.

My Dehumidifier got not more than 100ml out of the car in a 6 hour period and I suspect that’s from water left in the system when I lugged it out the house after emptying the tray.

I can see some water in there today but not sure if its come out of the deadening. Will have to wait for a good dry day after the MRS drops the baby so I can rip the car apart..

Hi,

Im brand new on the boards and quite new in the car world. This thread has been excellent, i was sold a used 05 1.9 TDI FR which appears to have this issue, guy told me they had just valet the car so it was still drying.. I am now asked to get a quote for the fix so we can come to an agreement, sadly i cannot get quote without paint Seat £350 just to look at it..

I was hoping someone had had a quote or paid for this work to be done at a garage or can give me a rough estimate of the cost for the door sealing and interior drying/valet.. Then i can throw a figure at him for refund..

Thanks and sorry if the board is not supposed to be used this way..
