How to help your gearbox!!! Post 2003

Will be picking these parts up tomorrow. What's the best tools to do the job?

I managed it with flat screwdriver, lump hammer to get the screwdriver under the cover to remove, a piece of wood so you don't damage the new cover knocking it back on and a small flat screwdriver (electrical one) and a pair of pliers to get the retaining clip out and back in.

Some people would also recommend the correct pliers to remove the retaining clip but I managed fine without.

I've done my Cupra TDI (same car, different badge) and behave the correct box for this fix.

For some reason I couldn't do my LCR box as it doesn't have the black cap to remove, dunno if that means the car has a non original gearbox? So if any ones interested in the shim and cap for this for £6 plus postage let me know

Hi. Had mine done yesterday. I didnt have any noticeable whining but thought I'd do it anyway. Glad I did because it has improved the feel of the gearbox alot. Selects gears so much better now. Defo worth doing.

Any one know what year boxs were fitted with the access cover?
Mines a 54 plate and still doesnt have the cover? Possibly had a replacement box?

Mine is a 54 plate bud so maybe yours has had a replacement box.

I didnt fit the bits myself, had a garage do it amongst other things. They said there was play in the main shaft but not loads. I guess it wasn't enough to make the gearbox noisey but make the gear change notchy. It improved the gear change loads, no more notchy feel.

I've got my bits to do this now. I have also brought the retaining clip in the picture. Which someone had posted the part number for. What sort of pliers do I need to get that out with lol. I thought it would of had a little hole either side to fit circlip pliers in..

I think circlip pliers were suggested but I managed with an electrical screwdriver (about 3mm wide) and long nose pliers!

To those with different 'boxes, I believe it's the 02M box but there may be variations or different codes etc. Best to check whether you have the black cover on the end of the box first!

Anyone know why some of the gearboxes (mine & richman711) don't have this cover??? I know my gearbox has an LSD in it, but on the gearbox it did say 02m
