MK3 Leon Cupra, what we know

it will come in a few weeks

The car is still under embargo and the dealers don't even have a price as yet. Yes I hear Jennings are getting Nevada White with Black/Black leather, Winter Pack and Radar. Nice machine!!!

Customer Price's and order books will open in January at a guess :)

If dealers can order them now, why wouldn't Seat make a PR statement re details etc?

This is the only reason I can think of :w4nk: - other than letting those who can't wait spend more on things like the Golf R and and S3.

I was hoping the Mk3 Leon Cupra would have four wheel drive. Now, although I don't care, I hope it is front drive :)

From Syphon's translated equipment list it seems to me, that the Cupra doesn't have front fog lights?

It does indeed appear it may be fogless

From reading up they aren't really needed with advancements in modern main lights, the LEON's LED's being a case in point. From the spec the LEDs are standard - hence no fogs.

Agreed, seems to be more the norm now, Golf R doesn't have fogs and you can't spec them.

Wow some good info coming out now.

So to summarise from above... none of it offical and I'm not claiming it is.

Two outputs 265PS and 280PS with DSG (maybe a performance pack upgrade)
Dealers have placed their orders which must be 280PS with DSG
LED lights as standard with no fog lights
Dynamic pack is standard (adaptive chassis)
Two cupra leather options (black/grey and black/black)
No body coloured door mirrors (expecting black here with a matching grille)
19" rims as standard but you can spec the 18" performance as options? (Unsure on this)

What are we expecting bodykit/style wise? I'm thinking that spoiler I want is going to be standard on these... Twin exit exhausts is looking likely from all the shots we've seen.

I think it'll have a grown up look. Maybe a dissapointment for some of you BTCC/K1/Supercopa fans.

Not long to wait now. I'm loving my 1.8 at the minute but this car will be an obvious consideration come replacement time.

At the moment the Cupra is only 280PS and DSG, that is the only option that can be ordered.

From what I have heard... the looks are going to be very grown up.. don't expect Cupracer

Hmmm DSG as standard, am only going to be happy with that if it doesn't mean a silly high base price. Hopefully they're not thinking they can up the standard spec (19s, DSG etc) in an attempt to ask a high price of say £28k. Can't see anyone spending that sort of money when for £2k more you can have a Golf R. Fingers crossed it'll be a good value for money buy like its predecessors.

Probably a wishful assumption. No mention of a diff or performance pack on the spec sheets though !!!

IMO if the mechanical differential is not a standard fit item on the New Leon Cupra it would be criminal of SEAT not to at least offer it up as an option considering VW include it as part of their performance pack on the GOLF GTI which has considerably less power.

We have asked for our demo to be an EMOCION RED LEON CUPRA SC 280PS DSG with the Black Alcantara Interior.

Just to clarify then - were dealers advised that the car can be had in 265 or 280 spec with or without DSG however all demo cars have to be 280 with DSG or were you just told the car is 280 with DSG as standard? cheers

Yes mate. We have been told that the car will be available in 265PS or 280PS. Whether they are both available as a manual or a DSG we do not know.

All dealers had to specify by Friday just gone the exterior colour, interior trim and various options we would like on our own Cupra launch demos which are all to be 280PS DSG variants.

As soon as any further info comes out I will post it straight up.

The drip feeding of information is just as frustrating for us dealers as it is for our customers.

It is quite evident from some of the posts above that the anticipation has turned into frustration for quite a few potential customers.

Lets hope the Cupra turns out to be everything that the dealers know there is demand for, what the customers actually want and that as a flagship model it embodies everything SEAT is supposed to stand for as a brand sitting within the VAG group.

Usually buying the Cupra means more standard items over and above the golf equivalent (Edition 30 and 35 spring to mind) Cupra had bigger brakes , higher standard engine power out put a lot more interior standard equipment , The only place the Golf was better imho was the interior , you do get what you pay for in a golf , but it seems that a lot of the vag newer cars do have this minimilstic standard range of interiors now , so maybe the leon will be on par with the golfs interior.

Will be interesting to see what VW brings out as a replacement for the edition 35 though and using the same engine as the cupra , how much cheaper it will be compared to the golf R starting price of £29k , this may be a reason (hopefully) to keep the Leon price down.
But the only thing im not so sure of is the new VAG branding it looks bland , the Golf R is very subtle (no where near as nice to look at as the current Golf R) , the new S3 is hideous and doesnt justify the £32k price tag on looks for me , and if the Cupra has a more mature look as suggested , it has to be one hell of a good drive to secure peoples money away other brands.
And just one other thing , having test driven a few DSG cars recently i really dont see the fascination , found them boring to drive , no driver involvement at all btw the list includes scirroco R , Audi S4 and Golf R , i really wanted to love the technology but didnt have the general excitement i though it would , sounds great in practice but for me No Thanks

Regarding DSG, I like the 0-60 in 4.9 seconds with DSG in the standard 300bhp 4x4 models - ie the S3 and Golf R DSG.

They are fun in a different way although I know that I will miss the manual gear involvement and lack of necessary manual input to get the best out the car.

Contacted local SEAT this morning they have also ordered their Leon SC Cupra demo car. Guy mentioned that the list/extras for the Cupra is on SEAT UK but I can't find it.

Anyone else seen it?

Spoke to James Galbraith at seat linwood today cupra 280ps is fwd with NO LSD as standard. DSG standard.

BUT ....... After meetings in Spain and training courses he was at. All rumours point to the leon cupra R's final production being 300 ps and 4wd.

The car will be unveiled the week before the cars will be delivered to seat dealers.

All what he said today.
