Has anyone ever removed the front seat covers.

With another freezing winter coming I am so tempted to fit a pair of electric heating elements to the front seats.

However I ve never taken a cover off a seat before. Has anyone had a go on a Mk4 ?

Looking at it as I would be only sliding it in I don't think I would need to cut too many hog rings.

Still seems tricky though and the guide does not mention the airbags.

I'm in the same boat mate. I've got replacement back rest covers for passenger and drivers side.

The only thing stopping me... the fear of fudging it up.

I am told that its relatively straight forward, unhook the plastic retainer clip and the roll up, unhooking the bars as you go along.

It sounds simple enough, the seat rest is practically the same process, however you need to dismantle the surround before try it.

I am sure that if you did go ahead with this and took enough enough photos with a brief explanation of what you're doing it would instantly become a sticky as I'm sure there's a lot of people out there with worse for wear seats due to the poor standard of craftsmanship on Seat's part and the actual material being a bit, well, ****.

Its something I would like to do as I have heated seats in my Volvo C70 and on a really cold morning they are just amazing.

I would be worried about the air bags going off and I am not sure that disconnecting the battery is enough.

I don't know if I will get around to it this year as the C70 is to be sorn at the end of the month and I cannot risk having no car.

If I do the job then I would of course put up a install guide. The cover removal should be the same as the VRS. The hog rings and special pliers can be picked up on ebay for around £20. In theory (air bags aside) it should be a straight forward job as long as you have plenty of time. Its not a job you want to rush to try and get the car back on the road for use in the morning.

Also I would like to see a guide for the refitting of the rings and clips. Simply refit is reverse of removal (Haynes style) is not really enough for me. There are some general video's on heat pad fitting kits on Youtube which seem easy enough.

although it has been years since ive done it ive removed the lower covers when i worked for skoda i think it was on the octavias but the same thing essentially.
if my memory serves me right it was to do with the cover rucking up or something like that anyway.

you dont have to worry about the airbag at all people take precautions by disconnecting the battery to stop the airbag going off i was simple taught to just leave the battery and not to put the key in the ignition this also stops the car registering fault codes.
disconnecting airbags was a weekly job with the octavias common problem of indicator stalks failing and needing to do the above.
i understand why people disconnect the battery but the chances of shorting the connection are slim.

i think it would be a fairly easy job fitting the heating elements i know that doesnt help you as i dont know your level of skill but either way you can always put it back together if you cannot get the element to fit as you wish.

I removed it once to install heatable seats. It's not very difficult, as long u don't 'bend' the metal strains if u know what i mean (sorry, i'm dutch )

I am deffo going to fit a pair but not sure this year. I wont start something on one of my cars until I have the other on the road.

My quick stainless brake pipe upgrade on the C70 has developed into a larger job and will prob run into the winter.

When I do fit the heaters I will make a step by step.

Different car I know, but I can't imagine the seat covers fit in a radically different way. Skip to page 2/3 for front seats
