I saw this on msn home page today. Maybe to see the same engine in the new Cupra R and hopefully will have 4WD like the Golf R.

(Could anyone make it easier for people to click on, I can't post links)

You missed the most important thing on the golf R article the price !

Sub £30k for the manual without discounts now that's going to be good news for Cupra buyers
Would imagine as the Cupra / Cupra R is only going to be 2wd that would mean a very hefty saving over a golf R , I would imagine £25k without discounts.
Could be the bargain of the year when it's released

Do you really think SEAT won't have a 4WD Cupra R?

I am sorry if this is stupid. But I wanted to see what it would look like in black. I used photoshop very quickly.

I like the blue lights.

Yes I really can't see it happening , it would have to be priced very similar to a golf R to protect the golfs sales , but then if you had the choice golf or SEAT ? No brainer golf all day long.
Don't forget the new S3 is also around £30k mark and you can get upto 7% discounts without even trying.
Don't get
Me wrong I would love there to be a 4wd Cupra but it just doesn't make economic sense.

I can see a golf being in my garage to be honest - agree the wheels are **** though. Not keen on the quad exhaust either. Love the rest though.

I totally understand where you are coming from. If they are both priced the same you go for the Golf all day.

I saw on Autocar this morning that Audi are putting the final touches on the S1 which will be quattro.

I can only imagine that a 4WD Audi S1 and FWD Seat Leon Cupra wouldn't be too far away price wise (S1 probably slightly more expensive if anything) which may, as we've discussed in this topic, leave the door open for SEAT to produce a 4WD Cupra R.

Time will tell but can't say that I'm overly confident of it happening for the SC or 5 Dr.

This is not directly related to the new Cupra. I have to say pricing is ridiculously cheap in UK compared to Finland. The "old" Cupra R (265 hp) costed approx 35 000 £ and the new GTI costs up from 35 700 £. I see that you can get an Audi S3 for 31 000 in the UK, that's a bargain. Here we pay 47 000 £ for an Audi S3. Lives in the wrong country. The cheapest performance sedan is a the new Skoda Octavia RS with Bi-xenon etc. as standard for 27 400 £, only 1200 £ more expensive than in Germany or France. Finland has weird car tax based on CO2 emissions among other things. I expect the new FWD Cupra to end up near 30-31 000 £. I noticed by the way in Seats France Facebook that they said Cupra is coming early 2014 :)

The A1 will be a 1.6 T engine maybe a 1.8 at a push , the pricing will probably be around £26-28k and that's another reason why there will be no 4wd Cupra or R

Why don't you just pop on a plane and order a car from holland ? And drive it home ? That's what people in this country were doing 8 years ago to get cheaper car prices , you still keep manufacturers warranty.
Just out of curiosity has anyone been on leon2passion website to see what the Cupra chat is about ?
I'm on holiday so can't translate it all :(

Still have to pay tax and can even be more expensive than "home" order. They wouldn't sell any new cars here if it would be that easy to avoid car tax. Hit a religious site with leon2passion.

Audi S3, Golf R and Cupra without R don't share the same engine, maybe Cupra R, but no detailed info yet. In Finland comparing Golf R with Cupra is almost the same as comparing Golf R vs Nissan GT-R price wise :) I think Cupra will be bolder design compared to the Golf. Latest info tells that NO Cupra show in Frankfurt next week (not 100 % certain).

Sounds more and more as if Cupra will be a Geneva unveil in the Spring. There was some chatter about a possible preview before the year is out, maybe for the magazines (ie pre-production version).

We are under the impression that they will share engines with new S3 and Mk7 Golf R, ie the newest Gen3 EA888 2.0L TSI power plant, but likely to be detuned to 265PS rather than the S3's 300PS. But won't have its cousins AWD (Haldex) setups.

Much like the outgoing Mk2 Cupra & Cupra R was a detuned version of the same EA113 engine in the previous S3.

The Cupra R (if it happens) will be a mid-life product, once both the S3 and Golf R have had their bite at the market.

A Cupra R will stand on the merits of the rest of the range, if the new Leon continues to impress and sell well, then the more likely the company are to get the green light on an apex model.

It does look the part :) The S3 looks a little too dull to me. I'm hoping the Cupra lives up to all our expectations :)

Spotted that the other day. Looks awesome. No details on price or delivery yet though. The closest I have is that the new S3 is £34k from Aberdeen and the closes the Golf R is likely to hit UK roads is April 2014......

"Our department informed us that there is no binding information for the final model name from the Spanish car manufacturer. Fact is that the model will debut in early 2014, with or without R."
