Leon MK2 Which Alloy Wheels? What sizes are compatible?

Gents,

Being new to the modded world, I'm keen to know what sizes of alloy wheels can be fitted to the standard Leon Cupra Rrrr?

They come with 19s as standard (2012 model) but would like to know what larger sizes are possible?

I have seen a few sites that do 20s, is that the max?

If someone would be so kind to list a quick table of alloy wheel size and required tyre size would be grateful, I'm sure others will benefit for future reference.

Do the leon wheels require a particular offset? any technical advice is appreciated

Does having bigger alloys effect the handling? for better or worse? I'm assuming that anyone fitting bigger rims would compensate with thinner tyres? (unless you want to break the law and get false readings from your speedo.... which I definately do not want!)

Any sample photos of members cars would be a treat!

I wouldn't personally go any bigger than 19s. The ride isn't great on these, 20s with say a 30 profile would be awful. The R wheels are very sought after and sell for a fortune on ebay, they're around £400 a wheel from Seat.
I've never seen 20s on a leon so couldn't say on the offset but the standard 19s are et53. You could go for et45 but even these could rub on 19s if u are lowered. This by the way is what I would recommend doing before thinking about wheels. Fitting H&R springs on my R was the best thing I've done and transformed the overall appearance of the car

OK, noted...

Just had a quick look on the H&R Springs website, they look awesome!

so the biggie question is this:

If i lower the car, how much by?

H&R OE Sport Springs
■Lowers .25 - .75” on average
■Offers more control and balance

H&R Sport Springs
■Lowers 1.5 - 1.8” on average
■Superb ride quality

H&R Super Sport Springs
■Lowers 1.75 - 2.3” on average
■Provides superior ride and maximum lowering

H&R Race Springs
■Lowers 1.75 - 2.5” on average... errr NO tar!

These are my consideration factors:

I dont ever want to experience wheel arch rub! (lots of 30mph speed humps in my local area and roads are ****! lol)

I dont want to spoil the look of the car (nothing too drastic please)

I would like to keep my options open with wheel size (but do not want a poor ride quality so 19"s sound like the way to go from wat u said.

These are the ones u want. Awesome gti is a good place to look 1st for a lot of tuning parts

They give a nice even drop, eibach springs do not on the R so stick with h&r. They dont spoil the ride and I've never hit a speedbump, I can still drive straight over the narrow ones no problem

I have a 2nd set of 18s and they do ride and handle better but the standard R wheels just look so good so I keep putting them back on

I'd stick with 18's. The standard R 19"s , whilst they look great, are very prone to stone chips (especially if coloured) and are not suited to "parking by feel" girlfriends , the tyres are more expensive (lots) than equivalent 18's, and do not like UK potholes!

Agreed they do stick out in the middle just waiting for kerbs to jump out
Having said that my wife has only kerbed them once or twice and only just caught the edge of the rim not the face. They've never been refurbed and still look good. Maybe mud flaps help keep the chips down a bit?
My last set of tyres were £800, so yeah not cheap

You may have a point about mudflaps, it's the rears that are the worst on ours, could be stuff being thrown up by fronts.

I had a wife once. Expensive.

I bought a brand new set of the 19" alloys to replace the ones I had on mine due to stone chips etc, and then retro fitted mud flaps after too, they deffo do help with protecting the rears - but the fronts are still prone to picking up chips as I can testify to!!

New wheels are now just over £400 per wheel now as well - just to add to the pain!!

I did seriously consider going aftermarket and fell head over heels for a set of BBS wheels like what Cila has on his Leon, but after contacting him and asking about the fitment I was advised that they DO catch when lowered&/or giving it the beans which stopped me going down the aftermarket route and getting brand new o.e alloys. Do regret it sometimes as the wheel shape with the outward bow on the spokes to me means they'll always be prone to picking up small chips etc!

The minimum recommended tyre width for 19"x9.5" wheels is 245 which would need to be 30 profile to maintain a similar radius to standard 225/40R18; you will probably have a problem fitting those under the rear arches?

The 19"x8.5" on the front can run 225/35 so rubbing may not be a problem depending on how much you lower the car.

Id love to see pictures, I have a cupra mk2 faclift, I went to fit 8.5 x 18 and they were too wide for the wheel arches, making the car illegal here in the uk due to wheels wider than the wings on the front

If anyone can shed some light please let me know
