Just been out to test fit the splitter

It looks a bit flat at the moment where I've just rubbed it all down, not sure whether to lacquer it or just polish up the resin.

The size is just right :D
I was planing to 2 blocks in the center then bolt it to the bumper, I might not need this tough as it's a lot stronger than the other ones.

I think the thickness of this one really gives it some presence compared to the previous versions.

Pretty much spot on now. Good work :)

The new splitter is almost ready for fitting tomorrow, I gave it another layer of resin yesterday which will be rubbed down tomorrow and the polished, hopefully it'll give a deep enough finish without lacquering.

I also got a bit more done on the heat shield.
They both need rubbing down again, one is ready for it's final coat of clear resin the other is on it's first coat.

I also decided to have another go a the mirror covers.
Last time they didn't come out too good but I've learnt a lot since I last tried them.

After their first coat of clear resin

If they are dry enough tomorrow I'll rub them down ready for another coat when I do the heat shields.

These are coming along nicely :D

I've just finished giving them another coat of clear resin, so if tomorrow is warm they bit be ready to sand down and see if they need another layer of resin or if they are ready to polish or lacquer.

A true work of art Darren. The splitter looks so at home, and the CF has taken so well to the curves of the mirror covers. Just brilliant :stars: :thumbup:

Thanks James :D
If I get time tomorrow I'll get some better pictures, the batteries on the SLR were flat today so I had to use the iPhone

I've been really busy trying to get everything done in time for Bromley pageant next Sunday and then Prept at Brands the follwing Saturday.
Mirrors after their 1st coat of clear resin.

Final wet sand before lacquering

Something else I'm making

1st wet sand

2nd coat of clear resin

I've also decided to redo the standard LCR splitter.

The one thats on now has cracked where the paint and the carbon join, I think this was due to the fact that I had put 2 different layers of carbon in it and there was too much resin, I also blended the resin into where it would be painted, this time I've only put 1 layer of carbon on and the resin will not go under the paint, I'm not sure when this will get painted yet.

And finally for tonight something for Dan's R32

Back to work tomorrow but I'll try and get some more done tomorrow night.

Just had their final coat of lacquer.

Tomorrow night I'll go over them with some Megs compound and then give them a polish up, that should remove any small imperfections.

They look like genuine carbon mirrors, top work mate. Is it hard to do or just require patience??
