rubbish radio reception

I always noticed pretty rubbish radio reception from my Mk1 '00 Leon and this continued when I updated the head unit with a Sony one recently.

Just to make sure I've not missed something stupid, as the Leon radio cable fitted straight into the Sony radio socket without an adaptor, that's all I needed to do, right? Or is there something I can add to boost the signal further?

Would a new aerial sort things out? Is is likely to be corroded or something?

Any clues would be great...

Cheers,
H

Also if you've changed the aerial on the back to a short stubby, that won't help as there's an amplifier wire that runs through it

Most aftermarket headunits need an aerial booster.

Here mate, i got one similar to this:

(actually the same 1 but from someone else coz it came with the iso plug and fascia)

The little blue wire has to be wired into the power (still need to do this one mine)

But that will boost ur signal. Btw, it goes in the back between the headunit and aerial cable.

Yes but like I said, the Leon cable attaches directly into the Sony head unit. Therefore, this booster thing won't fit! The socket on the back of the Sony is designed to fit the small pin of the Leon cable and not the long rod thing of the booster connector...

Possibly, but also be the the fact, like you have been told already, you need an aerial booster and the amplifier in the aerial is now without power.

OK, so what you are saying is that I need this:

AND this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PC5-90-AN...1?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item2575870dc7

to make the chain:

Leon ISO radio socket > amplifier adaptor > DIN to ISO Adaptor > Sony ISO socket.

Fair enough, will give it a go.
