Great afternoons work there mate :) The short shifter looks great for a new coat of paint.

I'm glad you're happy with the bushes. They're a great upgrade for the money! It's good to know you've replaced the bushes as time goes on with any car. I've been really pleased with my linkage bushings and the feel they give just as much as the poly bushing underneath the car.

On the Powerflex dog bone mount... do you currently have the standard setup? You'll notice increased cabin vibrations at first but these do calm down back to pretty much oem feel after you've clocked up a couple of hundred miles, sometimes less depending on how it's been fitted.

One note and I don't want to put you off - I used to run the Powerflex dog bone bush, but it was replaced by AmD for the SuperPro version when I got the whole bush kit done. Now my Powerflex one was in a pretty bad way when it came off, it had perished a bit, which did surprise me if I'm honest. It was never fitted at AmD the Powerflex, so I'm not sure if maybe it was on too tight or something but I thought I'd let you know of my experience. My friend fitted my Powerflex and I do remember him saying they have to be torque'd on just right.

I don't want that to put you off your one. I had my one fitted for 2 years before I replaced it with the SuperPro.

Thanks Tom. I think I might of heard this before. However, a couple of thousand miles a year, it should be alright for a while shouldn't it? I brought the Dogbone and bushes for a fiver each; they'll be better than the OEM one which is nearing 10 years old now. SuperPro seem to very good reviews. Knowing what I know now, I would have used SuperPro to bush the whole front end, just for the reason of longevity really.

60nm + 1/4 turn iirc.

Just shows how good seat were at designing it! Glad im seing a nice oem+ example rather than all these silly bling rubbish wheels that are hella flush nowadays lol

Yeah you should be ok with only a couple of thousand miles a year mate. Plenty of others have used Powerflex for years so I think you'll be fine, I maybe had one bad one or as said it was the fitting originally that did it. Also you have the actual dog bone bit too where as I just had the bush.

I did 3000 in mine last year, but I do like to push it from time to time and feel those handling mods earning there money, lol.

Looking forward to seeing more progress on your car this year matey :)

Thanks. Some of the wheels that the guys have gone for more recently look sooo good. It's great to see that more aftermarket stuff is coming out for the Mk4/18.T platform. Good times... Expensive times... :)

It's all about the respray this year and tidying it up. I just hope that I have the money/time to do it. It's so hard to predict how much a little one is gonna cost along with my wife going on MAT Leave. I'll just keep saving and hope it doesn't get swallowed by something else. Exciting times ahead, that's for sure :)

Polish… No, I’m not changing my nationality…

Well, with 4 weeks off work to enjoy with our new born, 2nd day in and still no baby… Not one for sitting around, I’ve made a bit of a maintenance hit list to keep my mind occupied. The car is on axle stands but the weather has continued to be pants so I’ve postponed servicing the Static+ modules, fitting the DBM, removing the floor and giving the car an oil change. This will be done as soon as the weather is up to it. Positively, I put a few miles on the car the other day and it’s driving immensely well; handling is super :D

With minimal time likely in the months ahead, It’s going to be all about getting the car in best condition I can. Reading my thread, this probably sounds a bit boring…

I’ve purchased and fitted a Forge turbo to hard boost pipe, removed the hard boost pipe and re-polished that to get rid of a couple of blemishes that were annoying me. Now blemish-free. Brackets, clamps and Forge strut caps re moped.

So, I’ve purchased a gasket kit for the rocker cover from GSF. I’ll be removing this to polish the cover, even though it would never be seen. I already have a second set of Inlet Manifold gaskets that came with my phenolic gasket, so I’ll be removing that and completely polishing it, whilst removing the rest of the PVC system from underneath. The TB will just need a mop. I’ve bought an ultrasonic cleaner to clean the injectors and FPR. Just need to buy some new injector seats. I bought a new Bosch FPR, thinking it was a 4-bar but It’s actually a 5-bar. This won’t work?? I’ll also remove and clean the catch can. Basically, I’m going to be polishing everything in site; replacing all the remotely rusty nuts, etc. The strut brace is going to be repainted to freshen it up, along with the battery cover and slam panel if I can. I’m eying up a compressor so that I can spray it with 2k paint myself. If so, I’ll be able to do all the exterior plastics myself rather than getting the body shop to do them as and when the car gets resprayed. Realistically, engine work won’t be on the cards for the next couple of years (because of funds) unless it pops. The car is a keeper and I want it to be a true minter. It probably sounds like boring stuff to most (and monotonous), but it’s what I enjoy and I want to see what I can actually achieve with this. Op fine tune is under way…

My daughter was 10 days late and my son 7 so get as much done as you can know. It's exciting times do you know if your havering a girl or a boy?
Are you going to find a body shop locally or travel to one?

Thanks mate. We didn't find out the sex. I was overseas for the 20 weeks scan so my wife and I decided to wait. Listening to old-wives-tales, the bump is sitting as if it's a girl, but we'll just have to wait until the little one joins us in this crazy world. Being our first, it's likely that we'll go over, as was the case with your children. Will be the greatest days of my life that's for sure :)

On the paint front, as I posted in your thread, I'll either head to Leicester based Paint works or a body shop in Northamptonshire. Both have their merits and very good reps in the vw community. I want a show worthy finish so I'll meet with them both and see what they can do. I'd planned for July time but I'll just have to see if money will allow. 3k is my budget. We'll see :)

Pipes come out really well James, what kit are you using on it ?

Thanks Darren. I'm using 3 sisal mops with black course compound for the first pass, then blue finer compound with the finishing mops (using a table mounted drill). I've found that the sanding process is key to a mirror perfect finish. I'm going to have a scout about for a metal wax to finish and protect it all. I may jusy use some of my Dodo juice wax... hhmmm...

Just been in touch with David @ Sere Motors. I've order my injector seats (part no 06A906149) and a throttle body gasket (part no 028129748). Also just bought a brake servo non-return valve to do the PCV removal. Should be dandy to remove the inlet manifold tomorrow :)

Thanks to Darren's recommendation, I've been a bought some Meguiars NXT metal wax, so this should compliment my labour rather well. I ordered some new clamps and 8mm silicone hose today from Forge to complete the PCVremoval. Sere order confirmed, etc. Had to do some domestic stuff today but I'm hoping to whip off the rocker cover tomorrow and get that done. We saw the midwife today; good signs that we're not too far away now so I best make the most of the time that I have...

I'll update tomorrow with some pictures as always :)

Great progress mate, polished parts look top. It's good your taking the inlet manifold off and doing the PCV removal that way, I left it on but half way through it I was banging my head saying why o why did I have to be lazy!!!!
