42 Design Gear Linkage Solid Bush Kit
Again, thanks for the all the positive comments! It means a great deal, so thank you
With the house pretty much unpacked now and the baby’s furniture put up, I was allowed some time on the car this afternoon. Just as I started, the sun came out and I really enjoyed tinkering today!!!
The main things on the agenda today were to fit the 42 Design gear linkage mounts that I’ve had sat in the boot since Jan, and to re-adjust the Forge Short Shifter’s throw from 40% to 30% reduction, as 2nd to 3rd gear is known to be a bit clunky when at max throw, so I was hoping that this would
help things.
So, the instructions for the bushes are really easy to follow, and it was such a simple job! My mechanic sprayed white grease on the linkages at its last service last year
and I’ve hated its messy look ever since (show queen I know… I’ve heard myself…). So, in addition to the other jobs, I wanted to clean up the gearbox area too.
Gear linkages removed and cleaned…
Old bushes removed….
Note: The OEM front to back bush was fully perished with loads of play. The OEM side to side bush was solid and with no play.
New ones fitted…
With both done, I decided to remove my shifter as it was all greased up. It’s been on for the past 4/5 years and so I decided to repaint it as it looked tired…
Stripped back… Shame I couldn’t polish it; looks like the bare metal would rust quite easily. Boo…
Primed and painted in Silver…
With the gearbox cleaned up as best as I could get it, everything was re-fitted.
Initial impressions are that, WOW! Precise and with no clunks! Feels immense in comparison to what it did before. £27 so well spent! I would recommend this to anybody. Such an easy job, and as long as you follow the instructions, it’s fool proof.
If I have time next Sat, I’m going to service the Static+ modules, clean the wheel wells/suspension and then that should be good for the spring/summer months. I’m probably going to put it on axle stands and remove the floor so that I can do an oil change too. I’ve got everything apart from the oil so I’ll place my order with Opie and hopefully it’ll be with me so that I can get this done too.
Finally…
I have a Powerflex Dog Bone mount. Is this worth fitting? Did anyone who has it fitted find any increase in cabin vibrations? With the floor off, I may as well do it hadn’t I? Any guidance on
reviews/fitting tips would be greatly appreciated.
