I eventually got mine to stay of by jumpering a couple of pins on the main board

Basically the micro switch from the tape player connects through those two terminals. Anyway after soldering them I never got the problem again.

Well mine was doing this turning itself on and the volume button was dodgy, so i removed the face tookit in my house got the wd40 out sprayed the on/off volume knob not loads just abit, and swivelled the knob around!! This worked plugged it back in all good now!

*note* wd40 can melt the rubber coating of your fascia so place a rag all the way around the knob so you dont get wd40 all over the place!

What can work is just turning the stereo off before you turn the car off.

I turn the stereo off, turn car off, lock car...go home, when I'm back I can see that the stereo in my car is turned..it turns itself on

two years ago I had a problem, I couldnt turn on the radio, and after few days it worked, it was fixed by itself..i didn't fix it by myself....

Now I have a problem the stereo turns itself on...

Btw, I wrote in my profile that I drive vw passat...my friend drives ibiza mk2 99-02 with this problem

I read few posts about leaving a tape inside stereo. If I put a tape inside, then If I want to listen radio I need to pull back tape by pressing both button for fw/rw.

If I jumper two pins then I can only "listen" the tape, I can turn to radio?

Put a tape in, most likely to fix it! Then push the radio button or cd button to listen to what you like... A tape lives in mine, never moved in 5 years!

Yours is the same as every other Ibiza mk3cupra!!! The round bunch of 4 buttons opposite side to the volume control.... One is RDS (RADIO) one is BAND ( ALSO RADIO!!) one is CD one is TAPE.

So you have 2 buttons for the radio!!!!

That 4 buttons are RDS1, RDS2, FM1 and FM2...if I press some of them during the tape is inside..nothing happens.

it looks like this

Hmmmm... I stand corrected!! UK cupra's are as I stated previously. I have a tape with wire for playing MP3 players on it. Wire hidden in the dash.. Fixes the random turn on and gives me an auxiliary input.

It would appear its not as simple for you... If you leave a tape in does it fix your issue?

The reason it works with a tape it the tiny switch on the pcb board is poo and thinks a tape gets inserted and swiches on the stereo....leaving a tape in stops this..

try joining the two pins, may be your only option... It can always be undone... If it results in you stuck in tape mode the try removing the switch from the board... Who uses tapes anyway!!!!
