Is there a drain for the two plastic rails on the roof?

Ok, I recently brought a lcr, without reading into common faults such as wet foot wells.

I found my carpet to be wet, but not a lot....not "puddles" like I've seen on here., but enough to smell it and hear a squish when I put pressure on it.

Now, as I've only had the car a few months I can say the amount of water hasn't gotten worse....so maybe this is a case that the leak was fixed but the carpet wasn't dried out....I don't know.

So, this is what I have decided to do....remove the carpet (which is now done), I'm getting replacement underlay as the old ones smell and I simply don't have the space or time to dry the wet ones out.

Whilst the carpet is out ill do a water pressure test on it, just to see if any is getting in.

What I want to do, whilst the carpet is out, is do the door seals...so I don't have to in the future.

So, to my question...I'm finding it difficult to find a 6mm round Bytl strip as mention in this guide, I can however fine a 8mm round Btyl strip on eBay .....so will this do or is that too thick?

P.s. I've also changed pollen filter, which when I pull out was bone dry...so it can't have come in through there.

Will the 8mm round thick be ok? Or is it too thick.....if so can any you post me a link to a 6mm round thick one?

I'm thinking the 8mm one would be ok.

Mine only leaks badly when parked facing uphill so t might be worth pressure testing like that as well.

As for the butyl strip 8mm should be fine but ebay number 221174811573 is 6mm if that is what you're after.

The one you gave is a 6mmx5mm strip....doesn't it need to be 6mmx6mm round? Would it be better to get the 8mmx8mm one for a little extra?

I'm pretty sure anything above 5mm is fine. It doesn't have to be round as long as it's sealed up properly. Do what you are happy with though.

When you get it you will see that it is a mess to use. It sticks to everything and changes shape if you pull it basically like a really sticky putty.

after some work on half of it as a comparison it looked like

Another water leak post!

Had severe leaks going into the passengers front and rear footwells which have been fixed or so i thought until today. Replaced the pollen filter housing which seems to have cured the front as the carpet is dry but the rear has developed another puddle. The door card got resealed with VW butyl seal cord and on the water test all seemed well. When i open the door earlier after a night of heavy rain i noticed the sill is soaking so to me that suggest its coming in from the door somewhere.

Any suggestion other than replacing the door card?

BTW i did notice when resealing it the door card had been resealed before.

When you say the door card has been resealed, do you mean the ancillaries panel? If you're actually sealing the door card, then that will fix nothing

Sorry my bad, i meant the panel behind the door trim panel which also has the window regulator attached to it.

Ah cool mate, might be worth checking the speaker seal as these are made of the same crap stuff on the ancillaries panel

Best thing to do is stick it in the fridge until you're ready to use it, makes it much easier to handle

Fix mine, all doors...blasted them with water, been 2 weeks now with bad wether and sills all dry as a bone, time to put carpet all back in now as that's all dry and no more leaks happy days.....next thing new temp sensor...then she'll be put up for sale....need a top up for a house deposit

Hi People. iv been following this thread ever since i noticed a swimming pool in my foot wells! i have sealed all the doors with butyll tape, fun job that was! i have also taken the carpets and insulation out to dry properly. once this was out i noticed water was still getting in but not through the doors. i was coming from behind the dash so i assumed this was the pollen filter, i have had the housing out and resealed with some automotive spec sealent, i run the house pipe through the bulk head and it doesnt leak. put the filter back in, the bulk head cover back on, run the hose pipe over the front window on the passenger side and it leaks! remove the filter and at the very bottom of the housing.. its wet!!

sorry for the essay but this is now driving me nuts! i dont want to put the carpet in untill its bone dry. some one please help!

Rikki - there are also drainage holes on both sides under the pollen filter so if this fills with water then it flows out over the Tyre Arches. Mine was blocked with leaves. A few pages back someone mentioned that in this same position on the drivers side they had to reseal where cables entered at this point (also). I dont believe there are any cable entry points under the Pollen Filter. Can you take the Pollen Filter out and check under it if thats where you are certain water is getting in??? May be the windscreen was changed and not sealed correctly you could also check that.

Hi Marv. all the drainage holes are clear and I can see the water drain down them. There is no cable points under the houskng as iv had all this out to be able to reseal I dont think its the wind screen. Its wierd because when you take the pollen filter out of the housing you can see the water right down at the bottom justbefore what could be a fan into the cabin. Driving me nuts!

Can you remove the Pollen Filter and test with Water?? What if you try and channel the water using beads of silicon (under the Filter) to the drainage holes.

thats what i have been doing so the filter doesnt get wet, im wondering if on the off chance when i siliconed the housing down onto the bulk head wether a tiny bit of the silicone didnt set and its letting water pass into and down the housing into the cabin? i made sure i used enough though so this wouldnt be a problem
