Looks brilliant Graham; seems to be going down really well! I would have done the roll cage in black personally, but I can see why you've done it. It'll look great :)

Have a great first Christmas with your little one

P.S. I picked up February's edition of Golf+ today. There's an S3 on the front cover entitled 'RS Kicker'. It's in Porsche Orange with black ascents. It looks the business! Unfortunately their website hasn't updated to the Feb issue, otherwise I'd attach the link. Keep an eye out for the mag. It might give/confirm some ideas that you might be having :)

Thanks again for all the comments guys

Had a great first Christmas day with the young-un.

I've been granted a full day in the garage tomorrow for good behaviour :D

So the plan for tomorrow is to scotch the orangey bits down and mask the sides off so i can get the cage fully painted.
Once i've painted the cage i'll wait for the paint to dry then cover it over before i paint the sides of the car again.

Cheers Again :)

Small Update -

Well i've had a full day in the garage today :D

I started off scotch bright-ing the orange paint down, it was nice and hard and quite scratch resistant... with was nice.

Got the new 1.4mm nozzle kit for my Spray gun -

IMG_0839.jpg

Nicely made, although it should be for £80.

I mixed the paint up a little thicker this time - as per the Datasheet. It flowed well with the new nozzle but next time i'll thin it ever so slightly more.

I put a further 2 coats of orange on the side, and it's fair to say i'm over the moon :)

The finish is really nice, doesn't really need flattening and cutting but i'll do it once it's assembled and on the road.

Anyway enough jibber jabber here's some pictures -

Had this delivered before Christmas but i forgot to take a photo of it.

It's a GRP bonnet from Xsport, really quick delivery and it looks very good quality.

So i'll hopefully get the other side painted tomorrow then do the roll cage the day after.

Cheers,

Graham.

£80 well spent wouldn't you say Graham? Are you going the flatten and give another coat of gloss black on the roof? Differences between night and day! You must be pleased as punch with the fact that you're now able to achieve a brilliant finish, without any sign of that lumpy orange peel. Keep it up buddy!

Looks a nice finish. Have you done any spraying before?

Thanks Mate, i've done a bit of painting about 6 years ago to my wifes bike. That was base coat / clear, this is the first time i've used the single stage stuff.
Just bought a couple of books / dvd's and researched a fair bit online, there's good info out there.

:D i'll let you off bud :) Thanks mate, the only issue is a couple of specs where dust / sh*t has landed in the paint. I've also seen some shocking stuff from alleged pro's but it's the same in any industry, some are cowboys and some are geniuses.

Yeh i would agree mate £80 is not too bad, to be honest i was a bit nervous of using the new nozzle as it's like learning to use a new gun again.... i had got quite comfortable with the 1.2mm set-up but i just had to thin the paint quite a lot (thats what i did the first coat of orange with) - this means more coats tho and higher risk of runs etc.

Once i've finished painting the orange i'm gonna flatten the roof off and try and polish it up, i'm thinking of buying a proper detailing kit.

Shouldn't really need to repaint the roof as i put 2 heavy coats on so there should be plenty of meat there to cut and polish into.

Thanks as always for the comments James.

Hi Gaz, thanks mate. The wheels either won't be getting used or will be getting done gloss black to match the roof. I will be doing the engine bay / wheels / mirrors / rear spoiler / grills etc all gloss black.

I spent yesterday cleaning the garage out - i washed the floor as it was covered in overspray dust.

I didn't have time to paint again yesterday as i spent most of the day masking / cleaning.

I did pull the masking back on the roof to see how the orange and black works together -

Looks nice. I then spent ages masking up the finished side.
Just got to paint it today then i can start pulling the motor out.

Gaz, your's will look sweet in the flat grey with red bits on, i love the GT3RS's like that. You'll be able to pull it off no problem - i chickened out of the matt as i think it would have been a nightmare for a DIY painter.... at least now i can flatten and polish my feck-ups out and nobodys any the wiser :D
Thanks for the nice comments bud, i'll take the pat on the back when she's all finished :)

Are you doing the bonnet orange? I hope so :). Are they the Super Cupra wheels that you may not use?

Yeh the bonnet's going orange mate ;) These are the ex BTCC supercopa wheels.
There 17x9" but i think they'll look a bit small in those massive Supercopa front arches.
I'll probably get some Rota's or something motorsporty :)

Update Time

Just come in from the garage from a session of painting :)
I didn't have time to paint the passenger side yesterday so just masked everything up ready for today.

I decided to revert back to the 1.2mm tip today as i'm more comfortable with that setup in the gun, because of that i added a smidge more thinner to the paint mix and it's fair to say the finish is really good.
The only issue i had was i got a couple of runs one in the door shut (not too bothered about that) but i got one in the rear part below the rear light, not too bad as i'll be flattening the whole lot with 2000 wet & dry then polishing it.

I put 2 hefty coats on this side.

Ooops -

IMG_0864_zpsc3816658.jpg

This happened because the back of the car was too close to the garage door and i wasn't comfortable.

Everything else looks nice though -

Just the roll cage to go then i can start pulling the engine back out to do the bay black.

So far so good.

Thanks as always for the support and comments guys :)
