Water leak into footwell - dodgy seal info and DIY repair guide (Image links dead)

just done this , but still having water collect . How many v did you cut ?

Think its one per door seal,there is a pic of an s3 with the v cut out central to the door closing

If this was required wouldnt Seat have done this in the first place? My seals were changed by The stealer and they didnt V them,Thinks its an individual decision to do them IIRC

i had yet another leak where i had the water fall effect on the drivers door

took door card of to find the the cabletie loom clip whitch holds the connector and loom for the electric mirror and window buttons was leaking...... they are foam backed to stop water but it would seem that it still leaked water as there was a trickkle line from it down past the side of the speaker pod and out the bottom of the door card!!!!!

siliconed her up refitted all the bits and bobs and am very pleased to say the waterfall effect no longer happens

Wouldn't rely on the V's you've cut in the seal, stopping the water leaking in. The only way to 100% fix it, is the butyl seal method.

That might be the case but I'm not convinced it will fix everyone elses, so like I said the butyl method is the only way to be 100% sure.

Besides who really wants to cut chunks out of their car and make it look gash?

The water comes in via the window carrier hence why the butyl resealing is the only way to sort it.

Cutting Vs in the door seal only gets rid of the water which is still leaking past the failed carrier seal and doesn't solve the problem with the carrier seals.

Might as well just drill a couple of holes in the floor...

Can u see the water lecking in from the doors. Do you see it on the plastic door steps inside the car? Mine has two rear footwells that are wet, passanger side being the worse.

I have been having some major issues with my leon. I have sealed all the doors with butyl strip and there is no longer any water on the sills however the right carpets are soaked and I removed about 2L of water this morning from the back carpet (when parked on a slope).

I have also sealed the wiring box under the wipers (scuttle panel) however it is still leaking from around the accelerator pedals.

Does anyone have a guide or pictures or both of what I am looking for as this is beginning to drive me mad now.

Yeah I have sealed the black wiring box underneath the scuttle panel as well, I am still having a small leak somewhere. I have looked everywhere ! the leak is also wrecking my mats as they are constantly wet.

anyone else had a leak near the pedals ?

Beefygti - what about Pollen Filter or bulkhead behind the accelerator pedal??

I read the following back on p63:-

Just thought I'd let you know my story...
Y reg seat Leon cupra with squelchy carpets
Followed this amazing guide and sorted all four doors!

Cleaned out pollen filter area checked for leaks and refitted rubber cover as it should be.

1 night of the heaviest rainfall ever known to man and I end up having 2 inches of water above the carpet in the rear drivers footwell...... Yes you heard right lol 2 inches.

Final straw.......... So I decided to strip out the interior to find the leak
It took 5 hours to remove the carpets from the car.

Then I sat in the car and my wife went around the car with the hose while I was inside with a torch looking for leaks.
All doors were fine and the pollen filter also didn't leak.

But there was a river running down the bulkhead behind the accelerator pedal into the drivers footwell And then running through to the rear footwell!!!!!!!

Yet again the windscreen panel came of and upon inspection the problem seemed to be where the loom comes through the bulkhead!

So I removed the plastick cover plate and cleaned the area with kitchen role.
Then I applied a liberal bead of silicone to the panel and refitted.

I had to remove the windscreen wiper mech to make this job easier.

I have been driving around for a week so far and alls well Evern when I use the hose on it the interior is as dry as a bone!!!!!!!

Just waiting for the underlay to fully dry now before refitting!!
I also decided to bleach the floor pans and carpet shampoo the underlay and carpets to kill any mould that was causing the horrid smell!!

Bulkhead by the accelerator pedal ? I will have to look into this . Does anyone have any pictures ? Can you see it from underneath the bonnet ?

Hopefully next week I will have the front seats out (already taken the rears out). I have sealed the plastic box under the wipers with roof and gutter sealant and I am going to also run a bead of silicone around the edge of it as well.

I will then remove the carpet and dry the underlay in the house before replacing the G180 Crash/Impact Sensor that has failed.

Sick of these leaks. Hopefully I will be at the end of this before summer!

I will try and get some pictures as I go. Any other pictures would be great with regards to what holes need sealing in the bulkhead.

Gilksy - post - said about behind the accelerator pedal - you could send him a private mail or wait for aymen.

Thats a point when I replaced my windscreen I noticed that I had overflow holes for rain water to escape from, which were all clogged up with dead leaves etc... As you look at the car - open bonnet - Top Left and Top Right by the Pollen Filter. You could check that the overflows are clear and not clogged. You will see what I mean when you check.

You will have to ask direct about behind the accelerator pedal. Someone may have posted a guide in the previous 65 pages!!

From what I understand water fills up in the scuttle area under the wipers and then comes through that black plastic box and drips off the accelerator and around there. I might be wrong but apparently fixing the seal around the box should stop the leaking around the accelerator.

That's only if there are no other secret holes I am the bulk head.

Hopefully someone will confirm this.
