If you're attending UD, have you considered applying for a clyb stand spot? ;)

I've started a thread HERE and it would be awesome to get some more people involved!

I would love to be involved, but honestly the bodywork needs doing before it could sit besides you guys. If I had the money prior to July I'd have it in the body shop now, but I don't use plastic and prefer to save for things, hence why things take so long... I'll defo come and say hi though. Others on here should consider it though. Seats are looking top notch ATM :)

Not that kind of POWER.....

Nothing exciting, but I bought a new battery for the car today. I went for the Bosch S4, although I wanted the S5 but EuroCarParts didn't have it in stock in the Nottingham branch, where I am for Christmas. It still has a high HrAmp and Cold Crank rating; it should be perfect for the car, which spends six months of the year in storage. The reason I got it today was because I managed to get 30% off, which saved me 20 odd squids :)

So, when the Awesome GTI package arrives next Friday, the car should be running again. Have a great Christmas everyone :santa:

To be fair I have a couple of dinks and scratches I could do with sorting by then but theyr'e not as fussy with the club stands if last year was anything to go by.

I know the feeling mate, luckily got some part time work I've been doing paid in one big lump so I'm getting coils fitted ;)

There are some great cars on here at the mo and would be great to get a few more of them together. Looking forward ot seeing the progress with yours once it's back up and running!

Oh, and Merry Christmas mate :)

I have a trickle charger I bought for an old project. Have you thought about using something like that?

I did think about that, but my duff battery is 4 1/2 years old so it was expected to go. I'll keep the new one disconnected and it should maintain its charge easily enough. Definitely a longer term purchase though!

I've always been the same but my next mod is trying its hardest to break that rule :(

It can be hard to resist, not a single one of my mods have gone on any plastic yet. Planning on keeping it that way.

It's definitely harder to progress with a project when you're saving for it, but it's the best way for me; especially as I've had the car for so long and will be holding on to it for years to come, I'm not pressured by time. The baby is getting all my money ATM - £580 yesterday on nursery furniture (saved £400 in the sales though). It's all worth it.

Hopefully my delivery should arrive from Awesome tomorrow :D

P.S. I hope everyone had a good Christmas?

It's defiantly best to not buy on the plastic. I've fitted my TFSI coil packs today and they're a improvement over the tiered old ones.

OBD-II WIFI WLAN and Supporting Software…

I’ve always wanted a Liquid Gauge but have never been lucky enough to find one at the right price. Speaking with Tom about some alternatives, I stumbled across a piece of kit called Innovate Motorsports OT-2 which you can buy through PSI Tuning, amongst other places. It runs with an OBD-II Wifi interface, and with the software, you can have it running through your i-Phone, i-Pad, Laptop, etc. It has a whole list of functions, which come close to matching the Liquid Gauge, including diagnostics and fault clearing facilities. The interface is roughly £126 and the software, through Apple Apps, is free.

It seems like a great bit of kit, but on some of the reviews, the software hasn’t been updated for a while and some of its features have reportedly lapsed. So I had a look around and came across a piece of software called DashCommand, which is produced by Palmer Performance engineering. It’s available through the Apple Apps for £34.99.

Here’s a link for the software:

https://itunes.apple.com/app/dashcommand-obd-ii-gauge-dashboards/id321293183?mt=8

Here’s a link for listed hardware through PalmerPerformance.com:

http://www.palmerperformance.com/hardware/index.php

I’m really impressed with the outlay of this App, so I’m going to give it a go. So, reading about the compatible hardware needed, Wireless/WLAN is preferred over Bluetooth. The reason for this is that in some of the reviews, maintaining connectivity with Bluetooth had been a bit problematic. So, I searched eBay for an OBD-II Wireless WLAN:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110868423524?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

For £26.99 plus P&P, in conjunction with the cost of the hardware (totals approx £67.00), it’s a cost-effective alternative to either the Innovate Motorsports OT-2, V1 Performance OBD-II Logic Race Tuning Box, or the Liquid Gauge.

It might turn out to be a bag of pants, but I’ll let you know. I really like the idea of keeping the dash totally standard, and although the installation of the Liquid Gauge is excellent, may be this could be a feasible alternative? I think the Liquid Gauge may be the superior product, but hopefully the DashCommand OBD-II will be a very close second.

I hope you have found this information of some use? Any guidance/further information would be greatly appreciated. It should be here next Friday so I'll let you know more about it then :)

Going back to an earlier post, I received my wireless OBDII module this morning.

P1030508.jpg

As you can see from the picture, the module is smaller than I expected. The cable measures approx. 1.5m, and I’m going to locate the wireless module in the glove box where the CD changer used to live. Hopefully it’s going to be a pretty good alternative to other products that are on the market. I’ll write up my thoughts when the car runs in Feb time, but from having a play of the software on my iPhone it seems user-friendly, has lots and lots of functions, and should work well in 'live-time' running with a wireless router rather than bluetooth. Time will tell...

ESC Adapters and 2.0TFSI Coil Pack Conversion

My delivery from Awesome GTI arrived first thing this morning. Excellent Services from Awesome once again!!!

My wife has headed out to see friends in Oxford so I’m having to wait at home for the delivery of our baby’s Nursery furniture. Hopefully it’ll arrive sooner rather than later so that I can get down to the garage and do some work on the car. I’ll update with some fitted pictures a bit later on.

Well, the nursery furniture didn't arrive until 1430hrs, so it left me with limited daylight time. Thinking about things, I could have done with electricity, which the garage doesn't have. So I fitted the new battery and limped it back to the house. I've put up a pop-up gazebo at the side of the house. Not as good as Graham's Man Tent...

P1030517.jpg

With the car out of the elements, I was able to put a heater inside the car to dry out the last of the dampness whilst working on the car.

Away we go...

Old coil packs out...

P1030522.jpg

Old spark plugs out... Point of note is that cylinder 2's spark plug had worked its way slightly loose; not sure whether this could have caused any running issues?

P1030524.jpg

New spark plugs fitted. I used my new gadget to measure 0.40mm. Good job that I checked them as they were gapped to rougly 0.20mm with some variation between plugs…

P1030526.jpg

ECS Adapters fitted… Really impressed with the CNC finish of these. Definitely not something I could make myself…

New 2.0TFSI coil packs…

All done…

Thankfully the car is running sweetly again. Idle is nice and smooth. I’ll get chance to drive the car when it goes back into the garage, but money well spent IMO.

LCR Foot Rest...

I ordered this of eBay for £17.99 the other day. It surprisingly has a really good finish, and a very good match for the LCR peddles IMO.

Untitled-1.jpg

I removed the plastic foot rest from the car, drilled three holes and bottled the plate into place. Very simple to do...

Fitted, it gives it a nicer finish in the foot well.

Forge Motorsport Washer Cap...

Purchased this a while ago. I'd made a Focus RS Billet cap to fit the washer bottle previously. Still looks great, but I saw this and had to have it...
