Sorry to everyone about the lack of updates - I've been really busy with work / spending time with the baby - he's coming on great and it's really hard now being away with work every week.... to be honest when i come back home i just wanna spend time with him rather than in the garage.

My mates car that's in first before the guy paints mine still hasn't been painted yet... not even sure if it's been started yet

On the plus side i've finished off grinding / cutting out the front cage mounts and dressing up / painting / seam sealing the areas.

I've got to say a massive thanks to RGM Racer - thanks to Rob i've got a full LCR interior set..... everything minus the seats / door cards. I also got the A/C condenser / pump / loads of bits off him :)

I have put the doors back on ready for paint (just to transport to the paint shop)

My next job is to remove the dash bar again and pull the heater / blower assembly out as it's full of grinding dust and i want to clean everything spick and spam, i also need to repair some parts of the wiring loom which i damaged / melted cutting out the front roll cage.
After i've done that i plan on putting in my new LCR dashboard and then sealing it all up with plastic bags so it doesn't get any paint on it during the respray.

I've also sent a guy a message on ebay who's breaking a LCR as i still need the A/C pipes / Side windows / under carpet insulation / Teardrop Mirrors.

Well i'm off to view a 2003 Golf 4motion 2.8 V6 in Newcastle this afternoon.
I've been looking for a 5 door car for the missus as she's not going back to work, always fancied a mk4 Golf so hopefully this golf ticks all the boxes - it's a nice high spec on 75k miles and history.... a massive spec car for 2.5k

Sorry again for the lack of updates,
Graham.

Thanks Guys

I've just got back from viewing the 4motion Golf. It's a lovely car with clearly a loving owner who had kept every reciept and papers from the car. So i bought the car, it was advertised at £2650 and i offered him £2500 for it and he accepted so happy days :D

Bit of a bargain really - 2003 car with FSH 69k on it, loads of options....heated leather seats, parking sensors etc etc. The car felt nice and tight, also sounded amazing and went well.... The performance is never gonna set the world alight but with a 0-60 time of 7.7secs its hardly sluggish either.
Gonna pick it up next weekend, can't wait.... Gonna get online and order up some sparkplugs / engine and haldex oil etc and give it a fresh service as soon as i get it home.

Its really surprising how much of a good car you can get for a couple of grand, i was thinking of a LCR then LC but then started looking at mk4 golfs GTI's and found the 4motions appear to be a bit undesirable (i.e cheaper than 1.8t gti's) im guessing due to the insurance and the mpg
The wifes not gonna be doing many miles now so i don't really need to worry about the mpg.

I think i'll wait a week or so before i order a set of BBS LM reps :D

Glad to hear all is well Graham. I totally understand about trying to spread time between family and work, let alone car time. Only yesterday I posted in my thread that with our first born arriving in the new year, I've settled on the idea of garaging the car for a year and then re-evaluate. I really enjoy my hobby (good work de-stressor) and I've owned my car too long to consider getting rid of it. I think it's okay to to stretch the time line a little. Would be a shame if your car was never completed by you; I'm sure you wouldn't let it go anyway.

I look forward to reading updates in the month's ahead :)

Hi Graham,

Glad all is well at home and you have hopefully lined up the rest of the interior bits you need.

Did my first track day at Brands on Saturday and it was wet for most the morning so reckon the 4wd would have come in very usefull!! Great fun in the afternoon though as it dried out. Once your project is all done be good to meet up with you at a track day to see how it goes with the monster turbo and 4wd! Mind you if i like it and knowing me i can almost hear the angle grinder starting up already:D

Thanks Rob, i've got most of the bits i need now.... thanks mostly to you :)
I bet you were scaring some unaware supercars round Brands :D
When it's done i bring it down to the south west and we can meet up.

Just seen this build thread via another post. I am in awe of the engineering that has been done in this. You have done an amazing job.

Thanks Mate, much appreciated :)

So i was just sorting out the insurance for the Golf 4motion (came in at £350 so happy with that)
After doing that i decided to try putting in the Leon with all the modifications.... best was £3500

Unfortunately due to me driving a company car for the last 7 years i've lost my no-claims bonus which was full no claims.

It's a bit **** really as i do 35000 miles a year in a company car but i'm still classed as a nooby - i also have 6 points which doesn't help.

So i tried using the wifes no-claims and as me as a named driver and it came back as £750 thats more like it, so when i'm finished the car i might have to get the missus to insure the LC and i'll have to insure the Golf.

Insurance sucks !!!!

Defo call them I also have 6 points etc they only go on bhp and are a modified company (broker) best insurance company I've ever used you can talk to them like there your mates and they get all excited great bunch of blokes very helpful , they explained it to me you can cut the cars roof off make it shorter etc they won't change the price it's solely on engine power mods so wheels cage seats etc don't cost any thing so you chopping your car up sticking the 4wd will be ok

Graham i sell motor insurance everyday so may have a few useful points.

Who is the wifes golf insured with? a lot of companys will mirror her no claims discount for you.

Also some companies may give you an introductory discount equivalent to 7 years no claims if you can provide a letter from your company saying you havent had any accidents.

your best bet is to contact a local insurance broker and see if they can help or try googling company car discount.

Also declare everything as they will pay out for damaged mods in a crash I covered my rods , valves etc

Cheers for the info Dan, and yeh i'm a firm believer in doing it right or not at all - no point not declaring stuff as it's as good as not having insurance.
I'll give them a bell a bit closer to the time cos they sound right up my street mate.

Thanks for the pointers matey, the wife's golf is insured with "quote me happy" not sure if they'll insure some thing as specialist as this.
I'm gonna speak to the women at work about trying to get a letter off our company insurance to verify my no claim history.
Thanks Again Guys :)
