Hmm, that doesn't look like mine at all. I'll try and get a pic tomorrow but basically mine is just the same as the one on the Dieselgeek video.

Got the FMIC fitted today :) Usual story, bitch of a job getting the bumper off but got there in the end. Had a bit of a faff getting the new MAP sensor tube in place but managed that too. Only thing I'm not happy with is the fit of the bumper after we put it back on, the edges don't sit flush with the wings, headlights and arches. It's also not properly mated up with the undertray. Going to have to take it off and try again.

Not really had a proper chance to play and see how it feels now but it did feel a bit more eager on the way home.

Huge thanks to Yohan for giving up most of his Saturday to help with this :)

Obligatory old vs. new shot :)

Looks much nicer in black I think.

Got a couple of 90 degree alloy pipes with the cooler stuff so decided to use those. That's meant 4 fewer hose joins than if I'd just used all the Forge kit.

Nice car lots of ups and downs but I bet your pleased with it now. Are you still thinking of changing it or are you going to carry on with the mods?
I don't suppose you have any pics of how much was trimmed from the battery box have you?
It'll be interesting to read your thoughts on the FMIC.
This has got to be my favourite pic from you thread though.

Haha, no idea mate, that trend was short lived but I'm not gonna complain if it's restarted :)

Never thought to take pics of the battery tray I'm afraid. Basically it was cut forwards of where the lower bolt that secures the little plate to hold the battery in place, that was pretty much it from what I could make out.

Yeah I bought the car under the impression that being a VAG product it should be pretty reliable, doh. Not sure what I'll do next year, I'll maybe test drive some other stuff and see if anything makes me want to change I guess. Keep thinking of other things to have a go in tho, been looking at slightly older Maseratis recently, but that might just be asking for trouble :)

Is that the forge hoses you got to go with the cooler mate?

The cooler itself will do a brilliant job upto any stage 2 car no probs. Looks great stealthy as drka says. Love mine this way :D

Good job. On the bumper, give it a really good push, those clips are a pain in the ass but it will go back flush. Top work bud.

Does the whole thing look different? or just the stick? I am wondering if I can simply take my current knob and stick off and replace with the original one and then after the alignment is done put it back on.

Cooler looks really good mate, dead stealthy.

You able to run you fogs on?

Cheers bud, yeah the fogs are there. Yohan was sticking them on while I was fighting to get the guides back on to the wings, he got there in the end tho.

Cheers, Yohan deserves at least half the credit tho :) The hoses and pipes are the ones I got from Willie with the cooler. The Forge kit uses 2x 90 degree silicones and 4x alloy pipes instead of the 90 degree alloys so I decided to use them as this eliminated 4x jubilees, 4x alloy pipes 2x silicone bends. I painted them black too :)

Think the reason the bumper isn't right is cos of the guide posts on the inside of the bumper - they are supposed to slot in to two loops on top of the crash bar, the one on the nearside is a bit bent. Will take the bumper off, hammer the loop back into shape and see if that helps. The offside sits fine and there's no loop on that side so if the nearside doesn't sort that way I'll just cut that loop off the crash bar.

Top job that mate. Why are these bumpers such a bloody pain for us all!!

Cheers mate, and tell me about it! Ended up taking it off the Forge way but to put it back on we removed the guides from the wings, clipped them on to the bumper and then reattached the whole lot to the wings. PITA.com :)

Very nice indeed. what does the map sensor do?

Cheers dude :) The MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor gives actual air pressure reading just before the throttle body, so that's exactly how much boost (or vacuum) is going in to the engine. It's there so the ECU knows how much fuel to inject.

Good job buddy.... giving me ideas for my red LCR lol

Cheers :) Do it!

It all looks pretty different to me. I guess you could do that but I don't know what's involved in changing the stick - if you could do that without moving the mechanism then I guess you could swap them over, do the reset then swap them back.

stealth ftw :D , looking good man!

Cheers, had a look around it tonight, you'd never see it unless you looked for it!

Update on the FMIC, had the car out for a short run tonight. The weather was very foggy and there was loads of farm crap (read - cowshit) on the roads so was taking it a wee bit canny but can definitely feel the difference, it's like 10% better everywhere according to 8bit's patented arse-dyno. If I got lazy and didn't bother changing down in a corner it didn't feel as lazy pulling out of it and the way the boost comes on now is just smoother and feels more confident. I'm sure it'll feel great even on hot days, if we ever get any more days like that in Aberdeen.

Car going on the rollers on 15th Sept so will see what that shows up. Yohan logged the car for me before we fitted the FMIC but we didn't have enough time (or enough give-a-sh*t) after to run another log. Before FMIC it showed IAT of 39C at full boost, about 6000rpm. Ambient temp was about 17C. Tonight I was seeing IATs of about 24C -26C at full boost (even saw 22C once) at high rpm, ambient was 16C. Not a bad improvement on IATs that, I might even manage to up the timing advance a bit too if it's reduced corrections any.

Happy bunny, just need to sort the bumper out!

Nice one mate. The pipework should be sound then!

You will feel very reassured knowing you have one of the best cooler core's fitted to the front of your car. Many bodge coolers cropping up nowadays. I'm so glad I uprated to the Airtec, it performed so well on track lap after lap, which is the intended use of them. Good core fins inside these higher end coolers are what sets them apart from ebay crap. The TX on mine did a job upto a certain point, but the car pulls much harder with the Airtec and it's much smoother, plus no boost leak codes ever appearing now either! :) She's airtight which is why she's flying.

You going to go stage 2 now then? :D

Pipework should be sound, yeah. I used JCS Hi-Grip jubilees. I know a lot of folk say get Mikalor clamps but I don't like them, they don't get any harder to turn as they get really tight so you can keep turning and turning and you'll only know it's too tight when something breaks. I've had the JCS clamps on the upper boost hoses for a while now with no problems.

Yeah I fancied the AMD kit when it was announced they were coming out. The price ended up being a bit more than I could justify with the wedding coming up so I was looking at doing a DIY setup but struggled to find a way of doing it without having the butcher the bumper and/or crash bar. When this kit came up I couldn't pass on it :)

TBH I don't think there's much point in going stage 2. I'm already making 285bhp and 281lb/ft, it made 1.86bar (27psi) on the rollers last time. Those figures would be pretty decent on most stage 2 maps, although maybe the torque is a touch low. I feel that the engine performance exceeds what the chassis and suspension can properly cope with at the moment so if I was going to do it I'd probably want to uprate some of that first and again with a wedding looming (8 months and counting) that's not realistic. Maybe. Not this month anyway :)

I'm not looking forward to the removing and re fitting of the bumper. Do you need to take the wheels off or can you do it with them on?

You can probably leave them on but we took mine off since the car was on axle stands anyway, just made it easier to get in behind the arch liner. In fact, if the wheel is off you can safely bend the liner out and behind the brakes to save you having to hold it out the way.

Another small update:

imag0389001.jpg

imag0390001.jpg

My Jetex was looking a bit past it so thought I'd try one of these as the stories of Jetex filters splitting worried me a bit. The red looks much more like it in the bay too :)

Loving the FMIC too, I even find it helps in town. I tend to be a bit lazy when not on a blast, don't bother to change down a gear sometimes when I should, find the car a bit more willing to rev even from low down, which i wasn't expecting. All good :)

How have you found the car drive with the BMC compared to the Jetex?

Glad the front mount is helping :) I felt the difference even on my stock map back in the day!
