a picture is worth a thousand words

i was driving home and felt a jolt through the whole car that felt like i was crashed into, at first i thought it was the exhaust had fallen off, got home to find the engine looking a bit lower than normal, and it moves about when rocked, looked under the car to check the exhaust and saw the bolt (or what i think would be a bolt) is missing from (what i think is) the dog bone mount bracket to the engine.

So hard to tell if the threads are knackered.

The engine will move back and forward dead easy now, putting more strain on the remaining mounts.

As well as putting a lot of strain on your downpipe/exhaust.

I'd say don't drive it until you get the bolts replaced, as Lee says the engine will move around a hell of a lot - if you've ever seen a stock 1.8T on the dyno the engine moves a fair bit anyway. With no dogbone mount attached it rocks really easily, even by hand.

Can't really tell about the rear bolt hole but the front one looks okay from the last picture there :)

Have you had a new sump recently? Looks very shiny lol.

do you think it will survive another 4 miles to the garage if i can get them to look at it, im sure its gunna be much easier to fix on a 4 post lift than on the edge of a pavement.

You'll have to rock the engine back to its normal position before being able to see the threads through the dogbone mount, either that or unbolt it completely from the subframe.

Personally, get it towed, don't get it there under it's own power.

i have no way of getting it towed, its done about 6 miles like it just to get it home, there are 3 garages near my work so ill have to call up early before i leave and see if they can fit it in

Bolts are M10. Be very careful if you put a substitute in. Gentle driving, smooth gearchanges, no rapid torque changes. The bolts should be renewed every time they are disturbed. You need new bolts from a VAG dealer.

Has any work been done to the car recently that would need the engine mounts to be disturbed? Those bolts have not been tightened properly.

Don't drive it. Get the aa to tow it or something. Carry on driving and you'll snap the studs in the turbo, and you'll have created about 6 hours work, for removal and refitting of the turbo and drilling out the sheared studs and refitting new ones.

You don't HAVE to renew the bolts, it's advised, but I've had my box off 3 times and never renewed them with no issues atall.

Do the aftermarket ones all come with bolts? I know awesome do a kit but it doesn't mention any bolts.
