Yeah, having this problem myself now - both driver side footwells are suitable for ducks :(

Many thanks to the guys who have put the DIY guides together - as ever it's SCN to the rescue :)

Ordered butyl tape and trim clips from fleabay.

I did my passenger front door at the weekend following the guide from here - yes it can be done by women :D it had been leaking constantly for the last few weeks of rain we’ve been having. It was sealed with clear mastic before and was a right mess, all the perished foam was still there. The guy I bought it off said VW had done all the door seals – I dread to think how much they ripped him off for the bodge job. Anyway, cleaned it all off, wiped everything with IPA and sealed with 8mm butyl. When I took the doorcard off, the 2 torx at the bottom were missing and also the speaker rubber surround fell out so I didn’t see how it was fitted. I put it back on as in the pic at the beginning of this thread, kind of sitting on the outside of the speaker, but now my doorcard won’t sit flush, it’s lifting as if the rubbers pushing it off. I can’t seem to fit it any other way though, even with the torx holding it down. Now I’ve noticed some dirty water at the bottom of the doorcard, no water on the sill like before but when I ran my hand under to check, there was dirty water like road spray. How would this be getting in? And can someone tell me how the speaker rubber surround should fit on so my doorcard is flush? Thanks :)

Brilliant set of instructions allowed me to do the job with the minimum of hassle. Only thing is that I found the door pulls easier to remove top down; gave sufficient purchase to tease it off without damaging the metal clips which were reusable.

Awesome guide - used it last night to sort out both nearside doors. Took about an hour for me to do the first one (as I kept cross-referencing the instructions!), and about 20 minutes to do the second. Really easy! I just wish I had done it myself months ago when it first started happening...

Now - just need some rain to check it works ;)

Just done this now on front driverside door. The silicone sealant that previous owner had used made it a right pig to begin with... very hard to remove the carrier from the door without bending it! Got there eventually mind. Can't say that I am too confident it will be dry in the morning though, we shall see...

Thanks for the guide regardless!

I'm still having a trickle under the pedals. , the foam directly underneath the steering whee is wet. I'm Getting fed up now

Can you actually see it running in? Have you checked the scuttle panel is clear and draining? It should drain out by the front wheels. lots of grommits under there so if water builds it could find its way in.

For it to appear there it has to be bulkhead/scuttle panel issue or maybe windscreen?

Honesty I have stripped the car totally. I'm going to give it one more try. I don't have a problem in I park on a slight decline as in the car facing downwards.if I park on the flat I have a trickle. If I park the other ways it's soaking

Finally got round to fixing my drivers side doors tonight - had to really as there was a small pond in the rear footwell this morning after about 24 hours of rain!

So, fingers crossed that's the problem sorted.

Thanks again to DubSteve for an excellent guide :D

I noticed that water was staying on the drivers-side door and running out when I opened it, but didn't know whether water was getting into the car. Over the last few days I've noticed the carpet is wet and there's a lovely moudly smell, so obviously water is getting in somewhere.

It seems to be just on the flat part of the footwell, not by the pedals, so is it likely to just be the usual seal on the drivers door?

Scratch that. It seems to be collecting on the door, however, the water looks like it's coming from the footrest area. The whole left side of the footwell was soaking this morning and it's pretty dry next to the door.

What could this be?

Just registered especially to thank DubSteve68 and everyone who contributed to this guide, you saved me a bunch of cash! It was straightforward to do.

I used a wooden spatula to lever the door panel/card off. It was slightly flexible with a bit of give so I didn't break any panel clips.

Is there anyone in the Berkshire area that's done this before that wouldn't mind giving me a hand?

I tried today and didn't get on too well. Door card came off fine, as did all the connections, but I couldn't seem to get enough space at the top to even fit the seal in. I'm now left with half a job that will hopefully hold until I can do it properly.

Really don't want to pay stealers £140 to do, what I've heard, is not a particularly thorough job.

Hello everyone!

I have a LCR -2004 and for a couple of months now when I open my front doors I have to take a step back.
If not my shoes get wet.
Haven´t really thought so much about this until yesterday.
Car had stood still 4 days in downpour.
When opened the door yesterday it came out lots of water. (more than usual)
Drove about 2 meters and stopped, so my girlfriend could get in and when I stopped I saw
water running in on passengers side (before she opened the door)

So it seems that the seal is broken right?

I had a Leon Top sport before the LCR (Top sport was from 2000) and heard then that the problem was fixed from 2003 and forward.
Doesn´t seem to be correct in my case.
Anyone else had leak on 2004-2005?

Going to ask my dad to help me with this but wonder what I should use to seal with?

Best regards

I have read more now (almost every page) and see that most of you recommend butyl for seal.
question 6 or 10mm?

Can I order butyl from my vag dealer?
in that case, anyone has the part numbers? (butyl and door clips)
they should be able to find the door clips with my licence plate but the butyl i doubt they know what it is. :-(

must say I wonder if my LCR 2004 has the butyl seal already or when did seat change to that?
