TBH its why I left the motor trade a few years ago. As a Renaultsport tech, I was being charged out at nigh on £100/hr and I wasn't even seeing 10% of that. The place where I'm semi starting up with we charge £35/hour but for forum members I'll be charging a bit less than that. advantage being where we have our unit its got very little over heads.

yeh tell me about it, makes you wonder why people stay with main dealers all there careers. £35 p/h is pretty cheap to be fair, be intersting to see how you get on.

Indeed, I'm quite happy doing nights as I am, and 3/4 hours down there each day, so enough to get a few jobs in and out, or a few major ones. I was surprised at how little you get as a Tech, however, ebay has killed the motortrade.

Loving the thread mate, good figures but is that the turbo limit or is their scope for more? Sure the website lists that turbo for 400bhp which i thought was a tad bit optimistic but surely its good for 250bhp?

336.8bhp, interesting.

Wellys hybrid, now on my car, is also a ko4 housing, and that topped out at 338bhp. I'm seeing a pattern!

Wonder where mine will top out when it's allowed to go nuts.

Lovely torque though Dan, Interesting how the torque curve follows an identical plot to the ko4, just higher up the page.

That is it. I might be able to add a tad more timing with WMI, But that is with the N75 at 100%. Or "BANZAI!!!!" mode if you ask Bill lol.

Indeed. I think we've found the flow limit of the K04 flange IMO. Theres only so much air you can push through a 41mm Diameter bit of pipe!

it drives alot nicer since being mapped, so its money well spent, I believe we have found the top end of flow for a K04 style exhaust housing. My water meth kit decided it didnt want to play ball yesterday aswell so Thats going in the skip, and an AEM one is being ordered. As a result, intake temps were in the high 30's by the end of the day.[/QUOTE]

With K04 style exhaust housing you say limiting you, what do you think would be needed to see figures nearer the normalish maximum possible of this turbo, circ 350 standard internals /400 upgraded. By exhaust housing are you talking upgraded manifold needed? and then maybe things like bigger MAF etc.?

Im running a relentless manifold, so flow of the runners shouldn't be restrictive however the collector and the turbo hotside only having an inlet of 41mm is certainly the restriction. I'll run it as is until winter when I'll pull it apart and change the manifold and hotside for a t28 item

Personally, I think that's a bullshit sales figure. In theory yes, a 2871 should make 400bhp on a 20vt, but it simply doesn't happen. Even the lads on 3071's are only seeing high 300's often.

So long as it drives well Dan, that's all that matters!

I'd be very interested to see how it compares to my hybrid when mine's finished. Niki said when mapping that it flowed more like a 2860 at the top end, and it makes very similar power to yours too. Could be interesting!

He must've been adding some obscene amount of timing to get 40 odd bhp! I have found the fault in the WMI and it's the solenoid. But I shall be purchasing a AEM kit hopefully, and I'll do some logs to see how much timing I can add.

It drives beautifully Prawn, it really feels like it's got the pick up and go like a k04, but then after 5000 where the k04 falls on its face the 2871r comes into a different league feeling stronger and stronger.

Looking forward to seeing what this ends up making with the new WMI kit installed, if +40bhp is available with more timing you'll be knocking on 380bhp :D

I dont think there's that much left in it personally.. Some from the wmi ign advance when its running, but not that much.
T25 0.6x gt2871 I did several years ago on 2bar boost was 370bhp but pushed very hard to achieve it.

on 1781cc, 2871/0.6x you are not going to see 400bhp numbers from pump fuel imho

If .6 is normal hotside on a GT28, what is it typically on a GT30?
