Right now i have received my full compensation and I don't see anywhere where they have told me to keep quiet. I shall share with SCN, Due to my experience like many others with replacement engines, and brake pad problems on my car. I chose to write a letter of complaint to SEAT UK.

To my surprise after sending the letter I was contacted the Next day by a Man from SEAT UK explaining he was dealing with the request on behalf of the CEO of whom I addressed the letter too.

I told him my problems with the Dealer I was using and the lack of faith I have in a car that guzzles oil and packs in when accelerating.

Long story short I ended up with 2 offers on the table.

I could cash my car in and they would pay a sum towards a new or alternative vehicle of my choice.

Or I could take the alternative sum as compensation and keep the boca.

As everything has now been fixed I chose the second option.

But I thought I would share on here as some members suggest it isn't worth the time or effort and we should be happy with what is in my eyes a badly designed group of engine components, and when there are fixes out there we should be offered these as a recall and not dealt with on a case by case basis when clearly there are problems.

did you complain to the dealer or SEAT HQ? Not gonna name the dealer but say i found them near slough. The guy who runs the technical side in the showroom named after a truck company lied right to my face and seemed to have very little understanding of how an engine works. The workshop guys seemed fine but he really let me down.

Same with a friend of mine who went there 2 or 3 months after for a service was told his week old tyres needed changing.

Gald its all sorted, they can never recompense you fully for all the grief and hassle but at least u have a result.
Mine passed their oil test and didn't loose and oil when they weighed it after they did 63 miles when i got serviced 10 days ago.

Anyway just re checked the dipstick and its showing just over half way on the gnarled portion....After 100 miles!!!

tbh i did ramp up a lot of legal weight behind the letter before sending it. but dont really feel i had to use it.

but there is so much in favour of the car buyer these days with sale protection, However the letter was sent in february and it has taken this long.

Also huge thanks to David at seremotors for helping me spend it lol

Hello everybody!

Here in Italy the situation with 1.4 TSI is not better, we also have some problems and a solution seems not to be found by VW: one guy from our forum was able to have his money back after that the piston rings replacement was not enough to solve high oil consumption...

After this first example, other people started a common legal action again VW trying to have their money back too...

Nutkin, I have a question: how much they offered you in the two options...? You can write it in a Private Message if you like... :)

Thanks,
Max

Glad to hear you had a good response from Seat UK. Ours was not so good. See thread "1.6 TDi REJECTED and REFUNDED" started 3/4/2012.

We wrote to Peter Wyhinny and we were repeatedly fobbed off by the person who responded. All attempts at repair had failed and Seat UK would not admit there was anything wrong. Eventually we complained to the Financial Ombudsman Service and got a refund and compensation from VW Financial Services.

On Wednesday (2/5/2012) it was auctioned by VWFS at BCA Brighouse. It was "sold as seen" so unfortunately it's going to be someone elses problem!

I would be interested to know the value of the two offers that were made. Did "cash my car in" mean accepting trade-in value for it? How much would you have been expected to pay towards a replacement? How much compensation was offered/accepted?

You can send a PM if you prefer.

Thanks

This is a good result to be honest, im having nothing but trouble with my car and the dealership its a joke.

Then they say they would pay a sum towards a new or used car when trading your in would this mean other brands or just SEAT brands?

ive had alot of problems with mine

Replacement Turbo and crankshaft
New Engine
New Injectors
New Knocker Sensor
there may also be a problem with the steering
Also paint and windscreen problems and just general problems with the dealeship and poor responses from them.

it was just seat brands tbh, i never pushed the decision as there isn't a lot around the price id be willing to swap for without loosing what i love about the boca.

my boca has been drinking oil but seat have just said they are looking into the problem and untill its fixed they will pay for the oil. but i want to know my options where i stand with this. i mean im not going to be happy if they turn around and say you need a new engine surely i should just be able to give the car back and they give me another one?
